What’s Happening in Careers?

Year 10

MyPath week was massive and the feedback from the boys has been fantastic. It was really great to see them engaging with all of the opportunities and getting excited about what they might do after school.

On Tuesday, the boys learnt about the SCSA requirements, their options in VET and Curtin UniReady. The highlight of the day was definitely the Expo. We had 30 different exhibitors in our gym and a really great turnout from our Mazenod and St Brigid’s community. The presenters were very impressed with the way that they boys engaged and asked good questions. They considered our boys to be quite exceptional, which is always lovely to hear.

On Wednesday, our Year 12’s did a great job of explaining their course choices and what these pathways entailed and this was followed up with some really interesting presentations by the MOB. It is always lovely to have the Old Boys back and hear about what they have been doing. Its great to see the diversity of careers and how connected these boys still feel to the College.

Thursday was our ‘Explore a Career’ morning and the boys had selected sessions from fitness, horticulture, VR Career exploration, drone flying, emergency services, hospitality and STEM careers. There was a lot of excitement around this morning and all of the sessions were fantastic. The boys were actively involved in PT sessions, growing mushrooms and cooking mushroom burgers and learning knots and safety harnessing. There was plenty going on and the boys got a lot out of their experiences.

We finished the week with our Careers Carousel. This year we had 15 community members presenting to the boys, which meant that they were in smaller groups and able to ask lots of questions. It was a wonderful morning for the boys and opened their eyes to many possibilities. We are so grateful to our Mazenod community members for taking the time to present to the boys.

This week we are meeting with the boys and their parent(s) to make their subject selections. A very exciting time for the boys as they take control of their own pathways. We hope they are moving forward with confidence and excitement.

Year 11 and Year 12

It was great to see a number of boys at the Expo. They made the most of having the Universities, RTO’s and industry providers on their doorstep and asked some really great questions to help them in making decisions about their future.

There is a lot of good information in the newsletter this week.
