SENIOR SPOTLIGHT

Parliament Of Victoria + Netball Division

Parliament Of Victoria Excursion

On Friday the 14th of July, the Seniors went to the State Parliament of Victoria as part of their Term 3 Inquiry unit Democracy Detectives: Unlocking the Mysteries of Parliament. The students were given a tour of the building and were lucky enough to participate in a role-play scenario to debate passing a law to ban plastic straws inside the Legislative Assembly Chamber. Klara was lucky enough to play the Speaker of the House, while Tommy was asked to play the role of Premier Daniel Andrews. The students really enjoyed learning about the different roles in State Parliament and how a bill is passed. A big thank you to our parent helpers, Brad and Olivia for their assistance on the day.

Ned - It was cool to see the different rooms and do a role play and pretend to be Members of Parliament.

Daniel D - I liked looking at the paintings of all the former Premiers and the statue of Queen Victoria.

Kaelan - I liked the Green Room because we learned a lot about the people that sit there and our role-play was really fun.

Daniel P - The building was really breathtaking and not all schools get the chance to go to see such a monument in person so it was really magical. There was even real gold on the roof!

Division Netball Competition

On Thursday the 20th of July, the St Joey’s Girls Netball team headed to Narrandjeri Stadium to compete in the Division Netball Tournament. Stella, Neve, Charlie, Saskia, Phuong, Mella, and Zia attended the day and were ready to win!

We competed against 2 different schools - Fairfield Primary School and Reservior East Primary School.

In our first game against Fairfield Primary School, we, unfortunately, lost with a score of 24 to 5. However, we worked on our passing and shooting skills. This meant that we played Reservior East for 3rd place in the competition.

In our second game against Reservior East Primary School, it was definitely a much closer game! Our competition was very very tall so we were a bit nervous! Unfortunately, we did lose this game with a score of 3 to 4. We played really well in this game, with lots of excellent passes and defense.

Even though we didn’t win our games, we still had a lot of fun!

A big thank you to all the parents and grandparents who came and supported us and transported us to the venue and back. Another big thank you to Miss Lauren for coaching us!
