MCG and Australian Sports Museum Excursion

Our year 6 students travelled to the Australian Sports Museum at the MCG during the last week of term 2. We set off by train and arrived by 9:30AM at Jolimont Station, just around the corner from the ‘G. Our group started out in the ‘Game On’ interactive activity section, where the students kicked footys, dunked basketballs and challenged themselves to a wide range of hands-on experiences. Loads of fun was had, with one of the highlights being the sweatbands the kids wore, which had a microchip inside that recorded their results live and in real time. What a great way to challenge yourself and others!

We concluded the day with a calm walk around the sports museum, which was an eye-opening experience for many, including myself. Their new Shane Warne hologram section was a fitting tribute to our Aussie icon gone too soon. We all had an enjoyable and enlightening time.

Finally, after a little persuasion with the ‘G staff, we managed to score ourselves a quick visit to the hallowed turf. This was a wonderful bonus and not something that was planned or typically allowed, so a big thank you to the staff for allowing us the access.

Overall, the day went beautifully and the students behaved exceptionally well. Let’s make this a tradition for our outgoing Year 6 students every year!

Henny Penny's visit to the Yr 1/2s

At the start of this Term the students in Yr 1/2 were greeted with the arrival of the Henny Penny program. The students welcomed 2 newborn chicks and & eggs to care for and hatch. This will be forming part of our learning on the Stephanie Alexander Garden Program. The chicks have now all hatched, a total of 10 (but unfortunately one has passed away). They will remain in 1/2LM as they continue to grow. The students have been such wonderful carers already to the chicks and are really enjoying the cuddle times each day. We have really enjoyed that the rest of the school have been so interested in meeting our new friends; often visiting daily for a short visit and pat. Many visitors have also come before and after school including lots of parents wanting a cuddle which we have loved to see... do continue to visit and join us on the journey of their growth. The chicks will be housed in a new wooden brooding box that Miss Tara has so generously made for us from some wood she had at home (Thanks again Miss Tara!!!). The chicks will continue to remain in 1/2LM for the next 5-8weeks or until they have grown into their feathers.

Thanks again Miss Tara for the new wooden brooding box! Our chicks love it!

Athletics Carnival

On Friday 14th July we had our annual Athletics Carnival at Newport Athletics T. The day was cold and a bit windy, however at least the sun was shining and it didn't rain. It was a great day with all students participating fully with enthusiasm.
