2024 Enrolment Reminder

A reminder to both our community and the broader community, Prep 2024 enrolment applications must be submitted by Friday 28th July to be considered for next year.  Can I please ask current families to spread the word amongst their kinder groups.

Celebrating Diversity:  Pride Day

At our school we are proud of the way we acknowledge, celebrate, and educate diversity. Symbolically this is reflected in our Statement of Respect of Diversity. Universally it is reflected in the way we act, think, and carry ourselves every day.

Today students acknowledge Pride Month with Pride Day.  Students were invited to wear a splash of colour to celebrate personal diversity.  Across the school, students engaged in age-appropriate learning focusing on celebrating themselves and acknowledging their personal qualities and strengths that make them special!  The day was a great complement to the ongoing learning students do in class, relative to the Respectful Relationships Curriculum.

In Term 4 the school will host a Cultural Diversity Day.

Assessment and Reporting

Students and staff have been going through a summative assessment phase in preparation for Semester 1 school reports. This has involved analysing acquired knowledge and collating it as individual student data measured against the Victorian Curriculum. Teachers have made use of a student-free day on Friday 2 June to bring together the formal reports.

Parents in Years P – 4 will see further evolutions to the way the school reports, with less written analysis (often filled with teacher jargon) and more explicit statements from the curriculum; with tick boxes articulating progress. This evolution has been the product of many cycles of reflection by school leadership teams. The change has been well received by staff as it has dramatically reduced teacher workload. Most importantly, in my opinion as both a parent and educator, this type of visual presentation also gives a much clearer indication of student capacity against the VC than the written feedback.

The screenshots below are examples of the Reading component of a school report (NB: the Writing and Speaking & Listening components of the English Report have been snipped out of the screenshot for ease of viewing). The written text is generic for all students in the level with the tick boxes articulating the individual student capacity.

A personalised comment related to the Capabilities (Personal and Social, Ethical, Intercultural, and Critical and Creative Thinking) remains.
