Dear Parents,
This week, we focus on Reconciliation Week where we highlight “Be a Voice for generations” and the need for Voice, Treaty and Truth for our Indigenous people.
National Reconciliation Week (NRW) is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.
This highlights the great need for RESPECT
…Care and respect for country following the footsteps of our Indigenous first people for 60,000 years.
…Care and respect for our Indigenous people and the need for truth, treaty and voice.
…Care and respect for each other and the need to eliminate racism and promote inclusive, respectful communities all over our great Southern Land.
…Care and respect for self and the need for self care and connection to others.
May we always hold, respect and honour the land our school is situated on and promote inclusivity, respect and belonging.
We explore how this all fits into Laudato Si’ Week, highlighting the need to take action individually and collectively by ‘listening and journeying together’. Listening and journeying are integral components of the ecological conversion that Pope Francis calls each one of us to.
We also highlight the latest Bishop's statement on the Voice. "We want to encourage all Australians to educate themselves as well as possible concerning the proposal to establish the Voice". This is an important moment in the history of the nation, and it can help us move towards a deep and just reconciliation.
We are proud of all we are doing in our school to promote, highlight and respect our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and ensure our current generation of students will always respect and celebrate our First Nations people. This Friday, our 1/2 community will join with Hastings Primary school's 1/2 community to celebrate Reconciliation Day. We will also celebrate a whole school Mass this Wednesday 31st March at 2.00pm. All welcome.
Today we celebrated our Year 6 Confirmation retreat day at Saltbush Centre, Balnarring. Year 6 students listened to three special guests and inquired into how they live spirit filled lives. I thoroughly enjoyed spending the day with our wonderful Year 6 students.
We congratulate our Confirmation candidates as they receive the Sacrament on Sunday 4th June at 10.00am Mass at Immaculate Conception Church, Hastings. We invite all of our community to this special event.
Following the mass, many of us will join the Reconciliation Walk in Hastings.
Yours in Partnership,
Gab
