First XVIII Football

Snapshot gallery from Tuesday 16 May matches against Baimbridge, Monivae and Portland Secondary.

On the 16th of May, 23 fit and firing footballers traveled down to Pedrina Park and played in The Hamilton and Alexandra College’s First 18s football side. The day started off on College’s terms, having a convincing win against a competitive Baimbridge side, where we built good habits and used our team mates well. Mitchell Bright and Oscar Hausler set the tone early, both kicking strong goals in the first match. College then came up against a strong Monivae B side where we were tested late in the match to a high level of contested footy. Jock Barrie and Lachlan Rees rose to the occasion, showing off their bigger bodies over the Monivae midfield, with College winning comfortably.

The match of the day was College v Monivae A team. The game was a quick, clean level of footy with both sides show-casing talented footballers, however Ben Potter and Jack Wortley stood out with their one touch ability. College was up at half time however fell short of victory in the second half, with the game being won in transition from arc to arc. Even with a goal late from Henry Bensch, College was defeated which meant our hopes of the shield were now out of reach.  We played off against Portland Secondary College in the last match of the day, were George Pern, Tom Hutchings and Kaeden Talay showcased their fitness to run out the match in the midfield. Well done to all College footballers who competed hard on the day and thanks to Monivae for setting up the day.

Cross Country

On Monday, the College Cross Country team travelled down to Portland Secondary College, ready to tackle the challenging course.  The team was low on numbers but this did not dampen our spirits and the day started well with Ruby Kent winning the first female race of the day.

Congratulations to the following placegetters: Harriet Nicholls, Pepper Bowes, Bella O'Sullivan, Mia Ritchie, Jude Alexander, Liam Dwyer, Jock Nicholls and George Austin.

Sadly, we did not regain the shield, coming up short to a strong Portland Secondary which won both the male and female aggregate. Well down to all College runners - everyone gave their best effort and left nothing in the tank.

Hockey

Division 1 Men

The boys showed some real spirit and held some periods of control in their game against the reigning Premiers Bulls last Sunday.  Despite a 2-5 loss, considerable improvement was noted in individual players, and there were some excellent moments of team play.  The goalscorers were Isaac Shaw and Ed Williamson.  Harley Milich worked hard in defence while Jack Jarvis, Harry Brown and Will Merrin were consistently involved in the play.
