Deputy Principal, Teaching and Learning

 - Mrs Susan Bradbeer

The Hamilton and Alexandra College Senior School students have three weeks (Weeks 4-6) remaining before the Mid-Year Examinations. Many students will have started to discuss with subject teachers the content being examined, the format and expectations. Students will be given support to revise in class, but revision at home is key

At the College we encourage our students to be independent learners and take responsibility for their academic achievements. But an important part of this success is building a home / Boarding House environment for study.

Students need to have the correct resources to study.

  1. Notebook for revision notetaking
  2. Flashcards
  3. Post it notes
  4. Access to hardcopy/online copy of the textbook
  5. Summary or revision notes (end of chapter)
  6. Practice questions/papers
  7. Revision booklet (provided by the teacher)

Parents and guardians can help students revise for exams by encouraging them to study in an organised space, to prepare for each study session by having the relevant resources ready to use and to be clear about what goals they have in each study session.

Students need to study without interruptions. Consider, locking mobile phones away and only use a laptop if working with an electronic textbook.

In the next few week students and parents will receive a copy of the exam timetable and an examination guide. Please review this together as you plan your revision.

Students who might benefit from extra support from a teacher are welcome to use Academic Assistance Monday- Thursday 3.30 – 5.30pm in the Winifred Berry Library.

If you would like to discuss specific concerns around examination preparation parents should contact the House Mentor for additional information.
