Sports Update

Daryl Porter, H&PE/Sports Coordinator F-12

SACSA Cross Country

Starting Week 1 this term, 72 students across Year 3 -12 took part in SACSA Cross Country competing over 1.5km, 2km and 3km distances at Carisbrooke Park, Salisbury. The weather held off until presentations at the end of the day, which was extremely lucky for our Junior School students. We had many students finish in the top 10 for their age group and gender, and many of our teams finished in the top 3 overall. Individual and team results will be communicated in the next newsletter once officially released.

Coaches Induction Night

In Week 2, we held our Club sport coaches and team managers induction night with approximately 30 members of our community attending in person or remotely. It was a great night to meet and share our passions with keeping our young people involved in sports, building their abilities, knowledge, resilience, lasting friendships and a sense of belonging. Having so many people who are passionate and keen to see young people remain active and experience the benefits of being a part of regular physical activity was very pleasing and highlighted that it takes a community effort to provide so many opportunities to our students. We will endeavor to share many match results, photos and reports in following newsletters and via our social media channels.

Emmaus Club Sports Update

Our Basketball teams have commenced their seasons and our Junior School Soccer teams have commenced their preparations for their seasons starting on Saturday 27 May. We are looking forward to these teams continually developing their abilities and knowledge of the sports during the course of this season.

Thank you to all parent volunteers who have taken up roles as coach, assistant coach or team manager. Without these people the teams would not be able to compete. As these teams compete week to week, the community atmosphere that is developed among players and families supporting their children will only become stronger and build relationships that will last this season and beyond.

The new Middle School Soccer program commenced on Tuesday 16 May. These sessions are taken by Football Federation of South Australia coaches who will work with students to learn, refine and further develop the various skills required in soccer and then apply these in game play preparing our students for interschool competitions, as well as taking out to other teams/clubs that they may be a part of. We hope that this opportunity proves to be very beneficial for our students and is the start of something that will continue to grow into the future.

SACSA Rijken Cup

SACSA Rijken Cup competition has commenced. Our Boys and Girls took part in Netball on Monday 15 May commencing at 10am and finishing at 6.30pm. It was a very long day of competition with many matches, umpire whistles being blown continuously and noise from schools' cheer squads, but our students certainly did perform above all expectations.

Our Boys finished equal third overall, and the Girls team finished runners-up to a strong Kings Baptist team. Having students in both teams unable to attend or unable to show a level of commitment required, proved a challenge. However, the players were able to rise to the occasion and work together to finish on a positive note (especially for those Year 12 students who will finish their time in SACSA sports this year).

We look forward to seeing a strong, united and completed squad for 2024.

Foundation Swimming Week

Foundation students across both campuses have taken part in their Water Safety practical sessions at the SA Aquatic and Leisure Centre. Students have been taught important skills to remain safe in the water such as floating on their backs, treading water, how to enter and exit the water safely, hand signals when in distress, confidence in the water duck diving, survival strokes and what be aware of in the water, etc. Thank you to those parents who offered and were able to assist during the week, I am 100% sure that the children enjoyed the assistance and guidance given by these parents.

Emmaus School Sports Communication

The H&PE faculty have also created a TeamApp page for all our representative sport teams, where information about trials, trainings, team/squad lists and carnival specific information can be seen by students and parents at any point in time. We understand that students may miss the notices read out in the morning or may have not heard what was read out, and we hope that this form of communication will keep parents and students informed about what is happening now and in coming weeks.

Once again, like our Club Sport TeamApp pages, these are private pages that only approved people can view information. Parents and students are encouraged to be a part of these pages for their relevant age group so that they can keep up to date with everything occurring in their relevant gender and year levels.

We have created several short videos for you to view below to help you navigate into the Stack Team App and find the information you will want to see. Follow the Hyper Links below to help.

We look forward to seeing you and your children on the various sporting fields, courts or pitches over the coming weeks.
