Prop boxes for production:

Thank you to everyone who donated boxes that can be used to make our sets/props for our production of ‘Shrek Jr’. We received a huge amount of donations and no longer require any more boxes. Thank you for all of your support!

Hi! My name is Angus and I am a member of the 2023 Arts Team. I am really enjoying being a part of this wonderful experience. I really love Performing Arts, especially drama, and have been a part of both of our 2022 and 2023 productions. In 2022 I played Prince Abdullah and this year I am looking forward to playing the Big Bad Wolf in our upcoming musical of ‘Shrek Jr!’. In both years I also had an understudy role. Last year I understudied Jafar and this year I am understudying Shrek himself. I also have a liking for Visual Arts. Although I may not be the greatest artist, I still have a love for drawing. My favourite thing to draw are animals and I spent a lot of my time during Covid drawing.

Prep police officers, paramedics, post officers and firefighters:

Our wonderful Prep students have been super busy this term in their classrooms and specialist subjects learning all about the people in our communities who can help us. In Visual Arts students have been busy painting miniature, three-dimensional, polystyrene people who they might see in our community. They created police officers, firefighters, paramedics and post officers. They were able to add special details such as envelopes, stethoscopes, hoses, hats and handcuffs to their mini helpers using plasticine. Prep’s will be using their mini people in a special, upcoming classroom project where they pretend to be people in the community.

Frogs, Echidnas and Year Two!

The Year Two’s this term have been learning all about living things! In Visual Arts students investigated the life cycles of both a sea turtle and an echidna. They improved their modelling skills by using air dry clay to create very cute, miniature life cycles of these two animals. There was much excitement when Year 2’s came to Visual Arts each week as they were able to create the next stage of their life cycle. They painted habitats as a display for their creations. Ms Marquis was so impressed (as she always is) with the artistic talent of the Year Two students and cannot wait to put these art pieces on display at the MPS Art Exhibition later this year.

Year 2 Drama

This Term, Year 2 students have been learning all about living things, as part of their “Sharing the Planet” Unit of Inquiry. In Performing Arts, we have used animals as the inspiration for our Drama unit and explored the features of different animals and how they move. Students were introduced to the play “The Tree Mouse and the Dingo”, set in the Australian bush with many different Australian animals, including 4 very talkative rainbow lorikeets. The story is about a very rude tree mouse who needs to learn a lesson about how to be nice to other animals. After exploring the features of scripts, students took on a role of one of the characters. In groups, they read and then rehearsed their play adding different elements like sets and props as they rehearsed. The students improved their ability to speak loudly and clearly, add character and movement to their performance and started to add stagecraft skills of how to perform to an audience. As they rehearsed the play, they also learned many interesting facts about their characters including that dingoes can climb trees! For their final performance, students got to wear costumes and perform in front of their class. Students loved the opportunity to perform a play in front of an audience, use scripts and wear costumes. Here is what some Year 2 students had to say about the unit in their reflection:

Hugo 2B: "It was inspiring and I enjoyed watching the play with my friends. I played the Dingo and it was amazing

Eliza 2B: The play was so much fun and everyone went really well.

Max 2B- It felt interesting and also very fun. It was really good wearing the costumes and made me believe I could fly!

Lucy 2R : It’s really nice reading a script cause it’s like reading a book, but you get to act it out! It was really fun to perform because you are exploring new things and dressing up is really fun!

Vincent 2R: Drama is so fun cause you get to act more than you usually do. At home you only get to act like a human all the time which can get boring, but in Performing Arts you get to pretend to be lots of things which is a lot funner.

Emma 2R: You get to learn stuff in a different way cause you are acting it. It is just a whole lot more fun to learn while you’re acting out. And I got my favourite part.

Lily 2N: It was fun. I was much better than last year because last year I had stage fright and this year I didn’t

Matilda 2N: It was really fun getting our own character and reading scripts.

Dwij 2N: I was Rainbow Lorikeet 4 and I really liked being the funny one

Jack 2M: The thing I enjoyed is how everyone really felt like they really were the character. I also liked how the narrators help the story by telling the audience what is happening. I also love the costumes

Reuben 2M: When I got my script I tried to learn all my lines of the Kookaburra, and I really tried to be a kookaburra by making the shape of my wings and the sound. When I went to Wilsons Prom I kept listening to the kookaburras, and it made me feel like I could do the same sound during my performance. I also even got a toy kookaburra.

Mike 2M: I learnt about dingos and how they can climb trees
