Identity and Outreach

Andrea O'Grady

The Identity and Outreach team have been working to provide a variety of opportunities for our community to grow in faith, hope and love.    Year 11 students are currently in the process of applying for student Leadership for 2024.  Interviews for College Captains, Prefects and House Leaders will occur in Term 3.

Campus Minister, Helena Tutoe and CES Director of Identity and Outreach, Ms Rachel McLean,  are creating a formation “Fiat” retreat – an invitational retreat at Seville Mercy Conference Centre for students to enhance their prayer life. Also, a prayer wall is being constructed in wood and acrylic to be placed on the wall of the Chapel.

The First Nations Education Officers, Ms Trenae Jai and Ms Natalia Oberleuter, are building connections with the students and families; creating opportunities to grow culture within St Mary’s.  Reconciliation assembly launched our week of activities to commemorate.  The dancers trained by Ms (Aunty) Nancy Baker from the eastern part of the Torres Strait from Darnley (Erub), Stephen (Ugar) and family ties to Murray (Mer) performed. The dances come from Darnley (Erub).  Look out for our Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) icon as we build our Reconciliation action plan.

Our outreach for the Cancer Council QLD has been successful with the Ice Bucket challenge providing a fundraising opportunity. Ms Jacqui Brophy and team supported an amazing “Biggest Morning Tea”.  The fundraising for the Cancer Council will culminate in the “Relay for Life” event being organised by Mr Adam Shirvington.  It is wonderful to be surrounded by staff who continually strive to provide opportunities to model the importance of taking action.
