Extracurricular Sporting – Term 1

Club Netball – Winners!

On a cool Tuesday night St Mary’s played a challenging game against the second team on the ladder, Sharks. The first half was a struggle for the girls as they found it hard to convert their turnovers. At the end of the second quarter they were down by two. Players switched it up and found their rhythm in the second half restricting their opposition to 4 goals and winning the game 17 to 11. The team remains undefeated and take on the newly second placed Leps at 7.30pm next Tuesday. We look forward to seeing you there to support our Netball team.

Vicki Wilson – Netball

On Friday 19th May, our college sent three netball teams to complete in the Vicki Wilson Netball preliminary rounds for our region.

Our Open Boys team played well and demonstrated great development in skill and ability. The team showed great transferrable skills and adaptability within the game. Our Open Boys team placed 5th in their competition.

Both our Junior Girls team and Senior Girls team did an outstanding job in their pools and progressed through the rounds undefeated. Excitedly, both teams played off in their division grand finals at the end of the day. Extremely valuable players in the Juniors Team were Bella, Eloise, Ivy and Taylah. Unfortunately, the junior girls were defeated by Trinity Bay State School in their grand final.

However, our Senior Girls team won against St Monica’s College, 12-8, in a thrilling 20-minute final game. This achievement has earned us the honour of representing the Far North region at the state finals again. This will mark our fifth appearance in the past six years at the finals series.

Our College would like to thank our coaches Mrs Kerrily Tindall, Mrs Tessa Mizzi and Mrs Bec Gibney for providing our students with this opportunity.

Queensland Secondary Schools Tennis Tournament

On Monday 22nd May a team of five boys represented St Mary’s in the Queensland Secondary School Tennis Tournament. The tournament consisted of single matches following by 3 rounds of doubles. The boys worked well together with some playing together as doubles partners for the first time. Our Tennis team showed great effort, skill and represented our College with pride. Our College would like to thank the Team Manager, Mrs Tillett for providing our students with this opportunity.

U15 Boys Bill Turner Soccer Competition – Upcoming Game

St Mary’s will play their second game in the knock out competition on Friday 2nd June competing against CSHS at Perzutti Park. We wish our Boys Soccer Team the very best for their upcoming game. We look forward to seeing you there supporting our Bill Turner Boys Soccer Team.

TCS & Peninsula Trials

Parents/ carers will need to contact the College regarding any school absence due to students attending Peninsula trials which occur during school hours. TCS trials occur afterschool.

Students are reminded to collect signed Peninsula paperwork from the HPE staffroom to take to their TCS trials. Students will NOT be allowed to trial if they do not have this paperwork.

Students and their families are responsible for:

Logging onto the Student Portal to obtain:

  • TCS Calendar (this tells you when your trial is on)
  • Peninsula paperwork (complete, hand in & collect to take to trial)
  • Notice of Trial (This document is uploaded to TCS Sport app within two weeks of trial)
  • Follow the timelines outlined in the Peninsula Paperwork Process – See below:

Instructions on how to obtain access through the Student Portal have been provided each week at the end of this Bulletin – See below:

  1. Go to the TCS Sport tile in the Student Portal

  2. In the ‘Key Paperwork’ section print the ‘Notice of Trial’ information for your sport trial. These will be uploaded as soon as we receive them. If it is not there for your trial, check again soon or see the sport staff in the HOB staffroom.

  3. Complete the ‘Peninsula Student Permission Details Booklet’ immediately and bring it to the HPE staffroom for signing – paperwork needs to be submitted AT LEAST one week prior to the trial date. If it comes in later than this, we cannot guarantee that students will get it back in time for the trial which can result in them not being allowed to participate.

Students then need to report back to the HPE staffroom within 2 days to collect their signed paperwork and take the Peninsula Student Details Booklet with them to the trial
