Developmental Play

This term in Foundation, we have started Developmental Play rotations. Play is key to children’s development, learning and wellbeing and allows children to develop skills in creativity, team work, initiative and problem solving. All of our Foundation students are involved in one of three activities each week with a different focus - STEM, Fine Motor Skills and Gardening.

In STEM, students have been using a Nudel cart which is a deconstructable, mobile play cart that can be reconfigured in as many ways as the students’ imagination allows. Using Nudel carts encourages active participation as students are able to design, build and construct their own product.

The Gardening tasks are aligned to our Sustainability Inquiry unit this term, ‘Our Sustainable World’ where we are investigating the conditions required to sustain living things and developing sustainable actions to care for the environment. Students have been weeding garden beds, pulling out roots, sprinkling and planting parsley seeds in our blossoming garden beds.

In Fine Motor Skills task, students are creating a Teddy Bear in bed wrapped up in a blanket! The task involves colouring, cutting, gluing and paper folding, all skills to support and strengthen fine motor coordination.

We are all thoroughly enjoying the Developmental Play rotations and are enjoying seeing the impressive creations and designs the students are constructing!
