Cebula Boarding

Boarding News

This week marked the Australian Boarding Schools Association (ABSA) National Boarding Week, a time to celebrate the fantastic efforts and commitment from Mazenod boarders and boarding staff. Mazenod joined  in the celebrations with almost 200 non-government boarding schools around Australia who provide world-class educational opportunities for any student, regardless of where they call home.

The week was aimed at raising awareness about the many benefits of boarding and celebrating the important part our boarding community plays in the fabric of Mazenod College and the wider community.

Our Cebula residential community is home to 78 boarders, from all over the state and as far afield as Indonesia. All the boys enjoy a wonderful opportunity to live and learn on campus, develop independence and resilience, and form lifelong friendships, living together in a diverse and inclusive community. While boarders do sometimes face challenges living far from home, they are all proud Mazenod Boarders who enjoy the camaraderie and support of their home away from home.

Just to give you an idea of how far our boarders travel - each holiday and long weekend, if all our boarders travelled back to their home town, they’d travel a combined 58911kms!

National Boarding Week was also a great opportunity for our boarders to say thank you to the vast networks of support that ensure they all have a positive experience during their boarding journey. From the boarding staff who live on campus and look after the boys day by day to the day parents who help get them to their various sporting games, the saying that “it takes a village to raise a child” is certainly true in the case of the Cebula Boarding Community.

To celebrate National Boarding Week, we have held some special events including an 'Invite a Teacher to Dinner' night, a fundraising sausage sizzle, and an Interhouse Table Tennis Competition. We also had an array of special treats including an ice cream van for afternoon tea and pizza and Churros suppers. We end the celebrations with our 'Invite a Day Boy to Boarding' weekend and a combined Mass and Dinner evening with St Brigid’s Boarding on Sunday.
