Miss Mel's Message

Principal - St Brigid's Primary School

Term 2, Week 6

Sorry Day

National Sorry Day or the National Day of Healing is an event held annually in Australia on 26 May commemorating the Stolen Generations. It is part of the ongoing efforts towards reconciliation between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians. Our students listened to the story “Sorry Day” and engaged in discussion and reflection.

Reconciliation Week

This week we joined together for National Reconciliation Week. National Reconciliation Week (NRW) is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.

We gathered in prayer, and acknowledge the land of Wurundjeri people and pay our respects to their elders both past and present, for they hold the memories, the culture and the wisdom upon which our nation’s future will be built. Students engaged in activities in their classrooms and across their specialist classes.

We share this prayer with you,

Lord,
open up our hearts so that we may hear the message you teach of a world in which the wrongs of the past are recognised - a world in which a reconciled people walk and talk together sharing stories; a world in which all long for peace and justice. We ask this in Jesus’ name. Amen

St B’s upgrades

Changes to our surroundings continue at St Brigid’s, creating a bright, fresh environment for learning and playing. Our students have enjoyed being part of the process, planting, mulching and weeding their way through sustainability sessions.

Uniform

The launch of our revised uniform has begun. Items are at an introductory price of $25. Sizings and specific measurements are available in the office foyer. We have sports t-shirts, shorts and skorts. The skort sizing can be taken from the shorts as we only have one sample skort available. Please come in and place your order. We will be placing our final order next Friday, in the hope of receiving the new garments early term 3. There is no obligation to purchase should you choose to continue with the current sports day uniform. Sport uniforms can be worn on Tuesday, Wednesday and Fridays. Stay tuned for the new St B’s hoodie. Samples to arrive soon.

Helmet reminder

We have been notified of student's not wearing helmets when riding to school. Not only is this a safety concern, it is also a legal requirement. Please ensure your child has a well fitted helmet and is aware of the need for road safety and awareness.

Reporting

As you would be aware reporting processes have changed. We understand that change takes time to adjust to. Whilst parents are familiar with the previous mode of written reporting, we believe the revised reporting model will provide more information to parents, on an ongoing basis, forming a clear picture of student learning and achievements.

Student posts will be personalised to capture individual learning progress. Each learning area will have a post scheduled regularly.  Any areas of concern will be addressed with parents and students on an ongoing basis as part of feedback protocols.

Interview options are provided on a termly basis, with four opportunities per year, whereas the MACS requirement is two per year. We believe this provides regular scheduled times for discussion, with the continued option of other forms of communication or meetings when and if required.

We thank you for your patience and understanding during this transition phase.

Working Bee

We are seeking volunteers to assist with the completion of a range of jobs in and around the school, and are in the process of creating a list to share. We understand families are busy and therefore we invitie families to contribute any time towards these during the time they are available. In this way, we hope the flexibility enables more parents to support the school working bee on their terms.

Building Update

The building continues, with footings, foundations and block work walls now visible. Check out the pics.
