Market Day Student Reflection

Last Friday, the Year 6 students ran a hugely successful Market Day. A day that had the whole school buzzing!

Here are two of our leaders, Bas and Louis, to share their Market Day experience:

My Market Day Experience

Preparation

Market Day seemed very easy when we first looked at it, but as the days went on, we saw how much preparation it really takes to run a successful store for the whole school. First, we explored previous Market Days to look at what things worked and what things required some improvement. Secondly, we chose our stores and started to dive deeper on what would make our store as fun and efficient as possible. For me it seemed like we had years to plan and create our stores, but a couple of hard-working sessions later, Market Day was just around the corner.

Ice Cream

My Market Day group chose ice cream and immediately looked at the flaws of last year's store. The first thing that came to mind was how boring the ice cream was. So, we started brainstorming, and after a while we thought of the perfect idea. Toppings! After that we thought of the best toppings for our ice cream. We thought of sprinkles, chocolate/vanilla sauce, wafers and a lot more. As the day came closer some of our kind group members and other generous people donated so many toppings we were flabbergasted!

Getting The Supplies

Only a few days before Market Day I oversaw getting all the ice cream and my friend Munroe was in charge of getting the cones. Getting the ice cream was a challenge, the only supermarket that had all the stock was a fair distance away and we also had to find a way to keep it from melting. After we figured out all of that we drove to the supermarket and then to school to store it in the freezers. On the other hand, my friend left it until the last day to get 250 ice cream cones. Our group was very nervous but on the last day he came to school with all the cones.

Market Day

Finally, the big day was here!

This was the day that we had all prepared for, we were so relieved that there was no more planning, all we had to do now was the hardest bit, set up our stores, but luckily, we had it all planned out, so we started to move tables and add all the extra details to make our stall perfect. Then the music started playing and all the younger kids ran out of their classrooms. We were all thrilled to see everyone rush and battle it out to get ice cream! From there Market Day ran very smoothly, apart from the fact that Mel had to make a quick supermarket run to get some more ice cream.

Conclusion

Market Day was a lot of hard work and dedication but at the same time it was so much fun. Personally, I feel like we all learned a lot from Market Day, and we improved on things that were very important. So, speaking as the whole year 6 grade we thank everyone very much for helping Market Day run so well and raise heaps of money for our graduation.

My Market Day Experience

Preparing For Market Day

For me and my fellow members of my group, (Danny’s Dazzling Disco) we were all stressed out preparing a disco for the whole school! We all tried our hardest to give the school a great time. Little did we know Market Day was right around the corner. Let's go back a little bit to our first session of preparing for the big day. First, we formed our groups. The people in my group were Gus, Alton and last but not all, me. All the year 6s looked at previous Market Day results to see which stalls were the most successful and the placement and position of the stalls. We were all super excited, but we didn't know what was going to come up next.

Getting The Supplies

Danny’s Dazzling Disco was going to be an amazing stall but before we got our hopes up we had to get the supplies. We assigned each person a role in getting the supplies. I was responsible for getting the LED lights from Amazon. Luckily, Amazon was reliable, and it came in time. Our initial idea was to wear minions costumes to Market Day but we couldn't find them. So, we borrowed the performing arts costumes and Gus brought the gold hats, glow sticks and more. We were all excited and ready for the big day!

Market Day

Market Day was here!

We were all pumped to see everyone hurry to the disco with massive smiles on their faces. We were all happy to see everyone have a good time. I think we had a good mix of preps to year 3s and year 4s to 5s.

Before the people came in, we had to set up the actual stall. It was tough. We had to sprint down to the BER and get tables and stalls to have a successful stall. Let me tell you it was quite hard with three people. So, at Intervallo we asked some nice people to take them out of the precious time to help us with our stall. Like blowing up balloons and running around to help us. From the bottom of our heart, thanks for helping us. Without you guys we would be a piece of burnt toast.

Conclusion

Overall, in conclusion, Market Day was a hard-working and successful day for the whole school. The year 6s are very pleased with how smoothly the day went. A big thanks from the year 6s for all you guys helping Market Day to make it a thrilling event. All the money that we raised will contribute to year 6 graduation at the end of the year.

THANK YOU!
