0ne-two-rful 1/2s

Term 2 Week 4 2023 - Friday 2nd of June

What have we been up to?

It’s been a busy couple of weeks for the 1/2 students! Students have successfully written their own narrative text by creating their own plans, brainstorming settings, problems and resolutions. The stories have been wonderfully imaginative and show a developing understanding of how writing can be used to entertain an audience. Students have also been continuing to develop their decoding skills as a part of the Little Learners Love Literacy program and have fully embraced the morning program. They have also begun the movie making process with our wonderful producer Bruce. Students now have their own role in the movie and have begun rehearsing with Bruce on Tuesdays and Thursdays. It has been wonderful to see students embracing their new characters and working hard to memorise their lines. One part of the last week that has been a roaring success has been students sharing pictures of their families and when their parents and carers were younger. Students have enjoyed looking at how different aspects of family life have changed and especially seeing pictures of their teachers when they were younger as well. It has been great to see students enjoying the brand new markings around the school and to hear the positive comments coming from the students about them.

What is coming up?

Reading

In Reading over the next fortnight, students will be engaging with a range of procedural texts and learning how certain language features such as verbs can be used to represent different instructions. Students will also be investigating how different nouns, verbs, adjectives and adverbs can be used to make a text more visual.

Writing

In the next two weeks students will begin to explore what a procedural text is and the types of procedures they already use without necessarily knowing it. Students will be looking into the structure of a procedural text and the type of language that is used to explain how to perform different tasks.

Maths

In Maths over the next few weeks, students will continue developing their understanding of strategies to solve addition problems. By exploring how to count on and ways to visualise mathematical problems, students will develop a deep understanding of the fundamentals of addition.

Inquiry & Science

Over the next two weeks, students will delve further into how families have changed over time and share stories and images from their own families. Students will also continue to build their understanding of what role different materials play in our daily lives.
