Taking Care of Me

Year 9 - TCOM

Throughout week 5 of this term, Year 9 students who have been studying health have participated in the Taking Care of Me Program (TCOM). The Relationships Unit of Year 9 Health has encompassed many areas of sexual health and helps expand the students knowledge of sexual health and what a healthy relationship looks like.

TCOM is a Sexual Health Program that has been running in Shepparton schools for well over ten years covering a range of sexual health topics in a short, sharp and engaging way. Students spend around 15 minutes in six different ‘rotations’ on different topics before moving on to the next rotation. The students have access to different professionals, who can build their knowledge and understanding of sexual health. The rotations covered were:

  • Sex and the law – led by Constable Mitch Bull from Victoria Police
  • The influence of Pornography on young People – led by Mark Metcalf, Adolescent Health Nurse
  • How to put on a Condom correctly - led by Kath Bradshaw, Adolescent Health Nurse
  • Contraception – led by Raelene Wilson, Adolescent Health Nurse
  • Sexually Transmitted Infections – led by Amy Keat, Adolescent Health Nurse
  • Healthy Relationships/LGBTIQA+ - led by Georgie Poort, Diversity Project, Uniting.
