Principal's Patch

Dear Parents

Thank you for your patience over the past week with the finalisation of the E.O.I for Sandy's replacement. This process has been completed and Sandy will be replaced from today and for the remainder of her absence by Mrs Shannon Lusk from Norris Road SS. Shannon is extremely excited to be coming to PBSS and has sent through a short introduction below.

Good afternoon Palm Beach Community.

It is a great privilege to be offered the opportunity to work alongside the staff, to lead this community for the next seven weeks while Sandra Thompson is on leave.  I am a local of Palm Beach but have been working as Principal of Norris Road SS, on the north side of Brisbane, for the last 4 years.

I know the staff and students here have been working hard and achieving great results and I look forward to continuing that with them.   I also look forward to getting to know this community and doing what I can to support your needs.  I anticipate learning a great deal during this time and assure you that my focus will be on continuing to see results for your children and this community.

Shannon Lusk

We look forward to welcoming Shannon and working with her over the next 7 weeks. I will return to my role as Deputy Principal and Krystle Devine will return to her role as Curriculum Leader. I am sure you will all make Shannon welcome over the next week.

Kiss 'n' Go

You may have noticed some members from Transport and Main Roads surveying the intersection of 19th Avenue and Townson Avenue last week. They were shocked by the behaviour shown by some motorists in their disregard for student safety. They reported that many cars were queuing through the intersection, blocking the safe crossing of the road for students, and cutting the corner sharply, narrowly missing students waiting to cross at the lights. PLEASE be patient in the afternoons when using Kiss 'n' Go and keep our students safety at the forefront of your minds. The administration staff are supervising students at Kiss 'n' Go until all students are picked up. I believe the few extra minutes it may take to be patient in the Kiss 'n' Go queue far outweighs putting student safety at risk. In addition we are working with TMR and the local Police beat to educate the wider community as it is not always PBSS parents who are at fault.

Thank you to the majority of our parent community who are patient and have shared their concerns regarding this matter. We appreciate your ongoing support in keeping our students safe on their journey to and from school.

School Opinion Survey

You would have received an email last week regarding completing the Parent School Opinion Survey. This school year has been like no other and you are invited to participate in the survey to have a say about schooling during the COVID-19 lockdown.  You are also given the opportunity to provide feedback about our school more generally. Participation in the survey is anonymous and will be available until Friday, 17 July 2020, and should take less than five minutes to complete.

To access the survey, please click on the following link or copy and paste it into your web browser:  https://survey.qed.qld.gov.au/form/Parents-HaveYourSay.aspx

Here at PBSS we are constantly looking at ways to enhance your child’s school experience and look forward to reflecting on what we are doing well and identifying opportunities for improvement.

Once again a huge thank you to the school community for your understanding and support during Semester 1. From home schooling, to restricted gatherings, it has been a challenging time for everyone! A reminder that your child's modified semester report card will be emailed home later this week. We look forward to working with you all next term and returning to a more 'normal' school life!

Kind Regards

Tyson Upton

Deputy Principal
