Principal's Report

Everyone’s back!
All students have now transitioned back to face to face teaching as of Tuesday 9th June.
It has been wonderful this last few weeks to welcome everyone back to school. I would like to again congratulate and thank all families for their hard work and support during Remote Learning. It has been a true team effort from everyone in our school community to ensure we continue to provide the best learning opportunities for our students. This would not have been possible without our families, so thank you!
This return to a schedule and routine is no doubt going to be an adjustment and very tiring for some students. Many are re-establishing social connections and comfort in the classroom environment. It is important to remember that ‘every minute counts’ in the classroom. Unfortunately, as we have returned, we have seen a number of students arriving late to school and class. As our teachers work with students to ensure their understanding of key knowledge and skills, it is imperative that students arrive to school and class on time. All students should aim to arrive at school by 9am to allow them sufficient time to be organised and in class by 9:15am. Similarly at the end of breaks, students are provided with a 5 minute warning bell to alert them to move to class.
It feels like something of a milestone to finally have all year levels back on site after 11 weeks. This also marks the end of remote learning, except for a handful of students who have specific medical conditions. So all of our teachers have re-focused their energy on face-to-face teaching for the students in classes. A few families are still choosing to keep students home. Parents need to understand that although they are welcome to access any work that is generally available on our online platforms (Google Classroom), there will be no specific teaching available for these students.
Students in general have been responding well to the changes that have been implemented as a result of Covid-19 and social distancing. These changes will remain for the foreseeable future. As a senior learning environment, we do expect all students to continue to respect these new changes that are designed to support the health and wellbeing of our students, staff and the community.
As we draw close to the end of term 2, a term like no other, it is important that during the upcoming school holidays, whilst students take the time for a break, they should also ensure they have caught up on any missed learning requirements. The holidays also provide an opportunity for our students, especially our Year 12’s, time to reflect on their efforts and achievements during the first half of the year and identify areas for growth and improvement as we move into semester 2.
I wish all our students, staff and families a restful break beginning June 27th and we as a college look forward to students returning on July 13th refreshed and ready to begin semester 2.
Kind Regards,
Simon Haber
