An Overview of our Learning
Week 7 in Visual Arts saw students exploring the changes within our Art Room. The big change for our students is that we have replaced our central mat, with fresh carpet square for them to sit on while they are listening to stories or watching an Art demonstration. We are also fortunate enough to have three large tables in the Art Room-replacing our well-loved old tables.
Students learnt the ‘step down’ or ‘ladder’ approach to colouring. This is where students choose a small portion of the section they are colouring and colour it thoroughly, before moving onto the next section. They were encouraged to work from the top of the shape and go downwards. This technique helped all of our students to produce some fabulous pieces of colouring work. It would be fantastic is students were encouraged to continue to use this method at home to help them improve their technique.
In Week 8 the Foundation students used oil pastels and water colour paints to create a piece of paper they will use in Week 9 to design a monster. They experimented with the different ways they could use water colours to paint paper.
The Grade 1 and Grade 2 students are marking the beginning of winter by drawing bears with ‘questionable sweaters’ on. Look out for them around the school in the coming weeks.
