An Overview of our Learning
It was so exciting to welcome the junior students back into the Performing Arts room last week. There were a lot of smiling faces and wriggly bodies as we tried to recall what an ‘orderly’ classroom looks like and sounds like. We enjoyed swapping stories about our time during remote learning and some of the challenges that this raised but also some of the fun things that happened. I heard about lost teeth, wobbly teeth, new pets, baking cakes, learning how to log on to Netflix, learning new instruments, more wobbly teeth, making drums from mum’s pots, dancing to Tiktoks, laughing at Mr Kitch’s dance moves, oh, and a few more wobbly teeth. The Preps did some relaxing visualisations and the 1/2s enjoyed playing “Rock Star” to my new favourite song Blinding Lights. This week we will do some general re-capping of our Music unit and begin to perform (body percussion only) the wonderful compositions that some students completed during remote learning. We will then be moving into more of a dance/drama focus in preparation for Term 3.
Next week I am looking forward to seeing the senior students and, no doubt, hearing some more stories about our time outside of the Performing Arts room. I can’t wait to see (in real life) the completed Performing Arts Poster Projects from Level 5/6 students (please bring them in) as well as some of the Orchestra posters that many 3/4 students prepared. The 5/6s will continue with their Global Music Study as we look at the music from Japan and the 3/4s will begin moving into a dance/drama focus in preparation for Term 3. I hope to use the last week of Term 2 as an opportunity for students (all levels) to share their talents with the rest of their class.
This will be fantastic preparation for Upwey South’s Got Talent in Term 4. Watch this space!

We are calling on anyone who might be able to donate any of the following to the school.
