Term 4 Weeks 2-3 Snapshot

Fortnightly Snapshot

BPS Updates

Dear Parents,

We are very excited to be back at school for the rest of Term 4. These snapshots will now become fortnightly.

A few organisational reminders:

  • Students must bring their own drink bottle every day. As we're heading into warmer weather this is even more important.
  • All students must wear hats in Term 4
  • Student drop off time is 8:40am - 9am. Grade 2 students will be dismissed at 3:30pm.

Writing

Students will be guided to write a short imaginative narrative text this week. It will include planning, writing the orientation (setting and characters), build up, complication and resolution.

Next week they will give and receive feedback on improvements to this writing piece from their peers. Then they edit for corrections and improvements taking into account the feedback they received.

After this the students will complete a post assessment where they independently write a narrative text. They will then choose one narrative text to publish.

Reading

Over the next two weeks, the students will be learning about traditional literature. They will be learning about the features of fairy tales, folk tales and fables. These stories have an oral tradition and have been passed down for ages. The students will use different strategies to infer the lesson or moral of a story. They will learn how to analyse the character's problem, mistakes or feelings to infer what the character learnt. They will also think about how to connect this to their own lives.

Word Study

Students will finish learning about Job 2 of Silent Final E : It can stop v and u from being at the end of English words. Then we will move onto Job 3, which overlaps with a previous rule : An e after c or g makes the c or g say their second sound.

Maths

Grade 2 will be continuing our focus on division. We will use stories and make connections to real-life sharing situations to build on what they already know. The concept of remainders will also be introduced in week 3 using the picture storybook ‘A Remainder of One’ By Elinor J Pinczes.

Our learning intentions are:

  • Dividing collections into equal sets
  • Selecting and applying a strategy to help solve division
  • Recognising the connection between multiplication and division

Unit of Inquiry

Over the next fortnight students will be learning about the attitudes and behaviours of a global citizen and how this can help with intercultural understanding.

Wellbeing

Classes will be re-establishing student routines and classroom essential agreements. Teachers will support students to settle into the classroom and re-engage and cooperate with their classmates as well as re-establish friendships.
