Primary Cross Country

Dear Parents and Carers,

Our annual Primary Cross Country was postponed in Term 2 due to Covid-19. However, our Primary K-6 Cross Country will still go ahead as an in-house event this term.

This will take place on Thursday 10 September.

Mr Hefferan and Mrs Twitchen have been busy preparing the track for our runners. Teachers from K-6 are preparing their students, ready for the run.

Due to current COVID-19 restrictions we will not be able to have parent/carer helpers to assist us and we are unable to invite parents/carers as spectators. However, we are investigating other ways to keep you updated during our Cross Country while you are at home or at work.

All students are to wear their sports uniform. They may wear a t-shirt in their house colours for the event but should wear their sport uniform to come to school.

  • Blackhawks = green and black
  • Sea Kings = purple and white

Kind regards,

Mrs Parsons, Mrs Twitchen, Mrs Smith and Mrs Burge

'Smooth Sailing' for Year 8

This year, NCS will be offering the Smooth Sailing service to students in Year 8.

Smooth Sailing is a web-based mental health service provided by the Black Dog Institute.

Delivered in the classroom, Smooth Sailing uses a secure website to screen students’ mental health, provide them with a range of helpful information, resources, and activities and link in with the school counsellor if the students are experiencing severe symptoms of depression or anxiety. The service has been shown to improve students’ help-seeking for mental health and reduce feelings of worry and sadness.

All students in Year 8 will be invited to use the service. Participation is entirely voluntary but encouraged and supported by our school.

Students who register to the Smooth Sailing service will be given access to the service for 3 months. All students’ answers remain confidential and are not shared with any school staff, unless the student reports severe symptoms – then only the school counsellor will be notified. All student responses will be stored on the secure platform owned by the Black Dog Institute.

For more information about this service, please read the detailed Student information sheet that will be sent home with your child. You can access a copy belowIf you would like more information, please visit the Smooth Sailing website. If you have any questions or concerns, you can contact the school or the team directly at  smoothsailing@blackdog.org.au

If you do not wish for your child to use this service, please contact  alisonstewart@ncs.nsw.edu.au

School Bus Travel - Shoal Bus

Dear Parents/Carers,

Students travelling on a Shoal Bus to and from school are required to have a valid school bus pass for the school service they are catching. If a valid school pass cannot be shown, a fare will be charged. In the event the school bus pass is lost, some form of student ID is to be shown whilst obtaining a replacement pass (fee applies).

You can help make your child’s school bus journey more pleasant by ensuring your child has a valid school bus pass and presents it to the driver in the morning AND afternoon. Parents are reminded that the School Free Travel is only valid from home to school as per the conditions on the back of the pass. Fares will be charged for all other journeys. Skateboards/Scooters/Bicycles are not permitted on the bus.

If you have any questions or your child requires a new bus pass, please contact Shoal Bus on 4423 2122.
