New format for NCS Bytes
No doubt, you would already have noticed that this week’s Bytes has been presented using a different layout (iNewsletter). We trust that you find this new format to be both appealing and helpful. It should mean that you are able to navigate your way around the articles and link to visuals and photographs in a more seamless manner. Year 7 Bridge Building

This term, Year 7 has been involved in a number of exciting activities in Tech. These have included Wood Tech, Computer Tech and Bridge Building.
Our class, 7 Tech A, has been participating in Bridge Building with Mrs Lawrence. We have had a wonderful time learning about the different types of bridges and their structures. Our knowledge has now greatly increased regarding the constructions that are part of everyday lives.
Because of this project, we are now capable of identifying different bridges and understanding the effort and engineering behind them.
We have all now completed our folios and have begun to create our own bridges using spaghetti and hot glue. Tabi and I have decided to use a truss formation with our bridge, because of its broad use of triangles and strength.
This term we have really enjoyed learning and researching about popular bridges, and what is added to increase their durability.

In July, NCS teachers participated in a workshop which demonstrated new technologies to enhance student learning. The Year 2 teachers and I decided to create ebooks (Year 2 was already doing this, but it was a steep learning curve for me!).
Once the books were completed, the Year 8 students visited the Junior classes and read their stories to a buddy in Year 2. Then the roles were reversed and the Year 2 students shared what they had written.
It was a wonderful opportunity to have collaboration across different year groups.
