LIBRARY NEWS

From the Library...
Hi everyone, I hope your week is going well, I just have a quick update this week.
This week we are continuing reading more CBCA shortlisted books, with K-2 enjoying the very beautiful story, ‘Florette’ by Anna Walker. We follow Florette and her family as they move to a new home and how she overcomes missing her garden and friends to discover the joy of new beginnings.
Year 3 and 4 are once again looking at a shortlisted non-fiction book, ‘Left and Right’ by Lorna Hendry. This is one of the most interesting books I have read lately as it explores historical perspectives, interesting statistics and other odd left and right facts. Did you know that over a thousand years ago, left-handers were accused of working with the devil or that you could have been accused of being a witch and sentenced to death only a few hundred years ago? Glad times have changed!
Year 5 and 6 are continuing to look at another shortlisted non-fiction book, ‘Amazing Australians in Their Flying Machines’, which details the backgrounds and feats of Australia’s aviation industry pioneers. Upon reading the book, students will learn how to summarise information and create fact files for these fascinating individuals.
Overdue Books - with the end of term looming, I will be sending home notices to students who have overdue books. If you could please assist with helping to find these books, would be greatly appreciated. If you cannot find a book or it is lost, please send a note in with your child.
New Library Bags - last week we had a surprise delivery of homemade library bags produced by a group of ladies in a social sewing group. Many of these ladies meet at the Girl Guides hall and use fabric from St Vinnies to sew beautifully lined library bags and provide them to schools throughout the district. The ladies would like to have these distributed to children who may not have a library bag or cannot get one, so if your child is in need of a bag, please let me know and I can provide one to them. My email address is library@holytrinity.nsw.edu.au or you can contact me on the school phone number. I would like to thank these ladies for their generosity, they have truly been made with love and our students will certainly appreciate them.
Roald Dahl Day - On Thursday, 13th September we celebrated Roald Dahl Day in the library. Many of his stories and poems were displayed and activities for these books were provided for children who came in during their breaks. The voting for our favourite Roald Dahl character is still open and next week I will let you know the results. There wasn’t one student, in any of the classes I asked, that hadn’t read or listened to at least one Roald Dahl story, it was a lot of fun remembering our favourite parts.
Have a great week, happy reading
