OUTGOING PRESIDENT'S REPORT

2018 - 19 has been a busy and successful year for Friends of FCC. We have welcomed many new parents to the group.

Our fundraising activities this financial year have included a silent auction at the Chef's dinner, refreshments served during The Wedding Singer, participation in the Scout raffle, and our annual uniform sale. These events raised over $10 000.

This year’s Small Grants program gave out almost $10 000 to a range of projects including mini robots to teach programming in the junior years, funding towards a solar fountain and the tiny house project in the sustainability centre, radio mics for use during school productions and a pizza oven, so students can cook some of the produce grown in the gardening program.

During this year we have worked to provide more opportunity for parents to meet informally & find out what’s happening around the school.  Maria Bawden was a regular attendee during 2018, and kept us informed about developments around the school & in the Footscray Learning Precinct. We have been fortunate to welcome Angelique den Brinker to our meetings in 2019.

We have welcomed a number of guest speakers from the teaching staff, who have told us about the programs and activities that they organise. Thanks to Emma Crampton, who talked about the Maths Pathway program, and answered many questions from parents. John Box spoke about assessment and reporting and told us of the processes in place to make sure that all students in a year level are taught and assessed against the same standards. Our last speaker for 2018 was Irene Alexandrou, the welfare coordinator who told us about the wide range of welfare providers and programs available to help our kids, including the doctor on site each Thursday. Rob McLeod welcomed new parents to our first meeting for 2019, and spoke about communicating with the school, and about ways to be involved, including through School Council.

Thank you to all the staff who give up their time to join us. We hope to have a guest speaker at one meeting each term, usually the second meeting - stay tuned for who’s speaking next.

Thanks to everyone who has been involved with Friends this year. Whether that’s attending every meeting, or only coming once a term to hear the guest speaker. Some people can’t make meetings at all but helped out at our fundraising activities or with donations of goods or services and helped make this a successful fundraising year. Thanks to everyone who helped in any way.

This is my last meeting as President. I would like to give special thanks to Chris Lovelock, for his continued support of our efforts. We’re glad to have him back this year. My job has been made easy due to the efforts of the secretaries, Barbara Braun and Stuart MacKenzie and the tireless work of the treasurer, Trish Anderson. Thank you all, and good luck to whoever takes over.
