Year 7 Sport

Our Year 7 Fitness, Athletics and Running sport class have had the pleasure of going to Beast Gym in Chelsea Heights the last 3 weeks to gain improvement in their overall fitness and core strength though boxing and kickboxing classes.  The students were very receptive to feedback to improve their skill base and were exceptional in their behavior.  A lot of fun was had and hopefully the glove smell will stay with them for a long time!

State Hockey Finals

On Thursday 23rd August Patterson River Secondary College Senior Girls Hockey Team competed in the Victorian State Championships. The team trained hard in the lead up to the day and their skills and teamwork improved dramatically. Patterson River Secondary College was placed in a tough group section playing against reigning state champions Koonung SC and runners up Warrnambool College as well as Sale College.

The first game saw the Patterson River Secondary College start brightly against Sale College, controlling the ball and field position for long periods of the game, eventually running out winners 2-0. The final 2 pool games had the team put in a tremendous effort against quality opposition, but in the end they were ultimately outclassed by Koonung and Warrnambool.

Patterson River Secondary College finished in 6th place, a feat made even better considering that only 2 of the team play hockey outside of the school.  Well done girls!

Year 7 Boys Hockey

On Monday the 17th of September, selected students from the Year 7 Sport Education Boys Hockey class represented Patterson River Secondary College at the Year 7 Northern Peninsula District  tournament.

In our first game against the Frankston B team the result was a draw. The boys were very unlucky not to score a goal after two excellent attempts. In our second match against the Frankston A team we were exceptionally strong in defence. Health Thomson prevented Frankston from scoring many goals. The boys played an extremely tough match and lost 0-1, however they should be proud of how well they played. In our second last game against McClelland Secondary College the boys went from strength to strength and won 2-0. Well done to Zach Spero and Robbie Cowden for scoring these goals. In our last match against Elizabeth Murdoch College again we faced tough competition. Will Sorati played exceptionally well as our goal keeper and stopped EMC from scoring several potential goals.

Congratulations to all of the boys who played to the best of their ability and were seen as tough competition by the other schools in our District. Again, I was so proud of the manner in which the boys conducted themselves and demonstrated fair play and team spirit. Special mention goes to our team captain Zac Spero who displayed not only excellent hockey skills but outstanding leadership skills as well.

Intermediate Boys Basketball

The Year 9 and 10 boys played in the Mornington Peninsula District Tournament at Frankston Stadium on Tuesday 11th September. They played 3 pool games against Carrum Downs, McClelland and Mt Erin. We finished top of our pool and played Frankston High School in a semi-final. It was a closely fought game that came down to the wire. Unfortunately, the result didn’t go our way but a fantastic day was had and the boys were a pleasure to coach. Well done.

Year 8 Boys and Girls Basketball

During the last week of Term, Patterson River had 2 basketball teams represent the college at the interschool sports day.

We had 1 boys team and 1 girls team.

I couldn’t be more proud of the students that represented the college at this event.  Considering the day was held on a student free day, all players turned up and played their best.

The boys team tried their best but not having played together all that much, and having varying experience levels, proved to be a difficult challenge.

The boys came 4th in their pool.

The girls played exceptionally well.  With no bench to speak of, the girls played all games for the whole time.  They were more than competitive winning all 3 games convincingly by more than 25 points in each game.

This then allowed them to play in the semi final.  Coming up against a team with 12 players that had fresh legs proved to be too big a task for our girls.  They continued to give all they had for the team and each other but we lucked out in the end.

A big thankyou to all the staff that attended on the day namely Deborah Otto, Rachel Dyball and Lachlan Mills.

It was a great day out.

Stay Sporty,

Coles Sport for Schools

This year Patterson River Secondary College was a part of the Coles Sport for Schools campaign. The School was very fortunate with the donations of vouchers from families, students, staff and the local community. This total allowed us to purchase significant amount of sports gear for our students.

The school received 19,271 points to spend.

A huge thank you from the Physical Education and Sport Department as were able to purchase new equipment for our Bat and Racquet Units, also new outside portable goals (not pictured).

We appreciate your donations and hope to be as fortunate next year.
