Aerobics

A very excited group of year 7 & 8 students recently attended their 1st National Aerobics Championships on the Gold Coast to compete for a medal in their division. The 3 day adventure, led by teachers Katherine Hawken & Fiona Lamb, was filled to the brim with travel, action, fun & competition! At least one parent out of each family also came along to join in the fun & show their support.

The first day involved flying from Melbourne to the Gold Coast, settling into their beach front accommodation, some shopping time, a swim in the beautiful pool, aerobics rehearsals & a team dinner.

Their second day began at 5am, getting up to prepare themselves to be the 1st performance for the day! All team members were involved in the opening ceremony and then exploded onto the stage in an award winning performance of their well-rehearsed routine. After a big day of watching many other Schoolaerobics, Dancestar, 100% Cheer & Glee performances from the massive national event that was taking place in the two arena’s at the Gold Coast Convention Centre, the results were out. The team was welcomed back on stage to collect a bronze medal for their division! A wonderful result after a year of hard work, dedication and team spirit. This was followed by a celebratory dinner at the Kurrawa Surf Club in Broadbeach, many giggles and a reflection of their aerobics journey.

On the final day we all headed off to Movie World for an exciting reward for the team & families' hard work. Many roller coasters were ridden, a few bellies were turned upside down & screams were aplenty!

After 3 massive days, the team arrived safely home in Melbourne on Monday night ready for a good sleep!

Music Camp

Without a doubt, one of the largest items on the music department’s calendar this year was the inaugural music camp, held 8th - 10th of August at Candlebark Farm in Healvesville. Leaving with 71 students (and thankfully returning with the same number), the camp proved to be a very successful bonding experience for all those who attended.

Although weather was a little on the cold side, we bravely battled on through our rehearsal schedule. As well as improving their performance skills, the students were also able to enjoy outdoor activities, games, movies, roasting marshmallows on the fire, dancing up a storm on the disco floor and competing in a cracking music quiz.

Congratulations to the members of Cabin 16 for winning a $50 Village movie voucher, for having the cleanest cabin and highest number of points. As the students and staff had so much fun, we hope to run camp every year as part of strengthening our music program and teacher/student relationships. We are currently inquiring about a venue in Dromana for 2019, stay tuned.

Musical Soiree

Tuesday 18th September marked the performance of the 28th Annual Musical Soiree and Spring Concert. Music students were delighted to play to a sold out audience in the Performing Arts Centre for the evening show, which followed on from a morning dress rehearsal. The bands rocked as usual and we are, as always, very proud of our students and their many talents. Congratulations to all the students who performed and helped to create a wonderful night.

A special mention of our graduating Year 12 music students who have now played their very last Soiree. These students have diligently supported the program throughout their time at the College and continue to provide inspiration for the up and comers below them. As they begin to study for their final exams, we would like to thank them for their commitment and wish them the very best of luck.
