Senior Years

Senior Years Orientation
Last week we had a very successful few days with our Year 10 – 12 students being involved in a variety of programs to assist their preparation for the start of their school year.
Year 12s spent two days back at school orientating themselves to the rigor of Year 12 and senior study.
Year 11s were involved in a day of Peer Support training with the help of the current Year 12 Village Leaders, in preparation for the Peer Support program for Year 7s starting next week.
Year 10s were treated to some information and discussion around what it means to be a senior student. They also had a discussion in gender based groups about the consequences of inappropriate use of social media – particularly sexting.
All students were re-informed of some of the changes that have occurred to College buildings and procedures over the break as well as some changes that they can expect in the classroom through the College’s Vision for Learning.

Year 12 Orientation
Our Year 12 students participated in a two day Orientation program on the school campus on Wednesday 1 and Thursday 2 February. The program aimed to manage the administrative tasks, but also to refocus the students and better prepare them to reach their goals, and aspirations. An additional focus was to establish productive relationships for the future and develop a sense of leadership within the group.
The first activity up was a full day workshop presented by Matt Kershaw and his team from yLead. This workshop involved practical activities and inspirational stories related to leadership, teamwork, communication, problem solving and gratitude. This workshop continues to be a highlight of the Year 12 calendar each year with student feedback being overwhelmingly positive.
In Village groups students then put the skills they had learnt during the workshop to good use. Planning and executing a dinner to share together on a $30 budget. It was great to see the effort that students went to in planning together, decorating tables and cooking the meal and it was also pleasing to see smaller Village groups sharing their budget or purchasing items for the larger groups.
On Thursday, Director of Senior Years, Karen Kesby began the day inspiring the students for the year ahead, by reflecting on The Endeavour Way and the Vision for Learning. Pathways Coordinator, Annie Fitridge, introduced students to various pathways and options outside and beyond the College. Students then completed another teamwork and problem solving challenge before hearing from Pastor Dale MAX (Mentoring And Christian Living) and Teacher Librarian, Catherine Barnes about information around library resources. The day finished with some work in study skills, Year Level goals and key dates for the year.
Overall the Orientation was an extremely positive start to a challenging year for our Year 12 students and I look forward to working with them closely going forward.
