The Year 8 'Amazing Race'

On their first day of school for the year, all Year 8 students participated in ‘The Amazing Race’ throughout the school and surrounding Mawson Lakes community.

The students were placed in teams of twelve and asked to create a team song or cheer which they needed to sing as they completed the challenges.  All team members were also required to carry a rope with them while they solved the various clues to gain points and finish the ‘race’.

Students’ team work, mathematical and problem solving skills were put to the test with questions such as ‘determine the average price of a sushi roll at Mo-Mo Sushi’ and ‘calculate how many square holes are in the tennis net’; as well as their creative ability with tasks such as ‘draw the satellite dish on the school grounds’.

The students showed outstanding enthusiasm and energy throughout the day.  Many skills and talents were on display and their determination and competitiveness meant the day was motivating and loads of fun.

I would like to thank all the students for their approach towards the day.  A special thanks to the staff who supervised the students in each group and to Marni Harding who was heavily involved in the planning and creating of the clues and challenges.

Year 7 Orientation

Last Friday, Endeavour College welcomed to the school community 113 new Year 7 students for their Orientation Day. This day has been especially designed to help students with their transition from Primary School into Secondary School. One of the main aims is to help students meet new people from their cohort and to help them begin building new friendships with their peers. To facilitate this, a series of getting to know you activities, games and discussions were ran with the aim of building a sense of connectedness amongst the Year 7 unit.

In the afternoon session, the Year 7 students were introduced to the Endeavour Way and participated in various group work activities to unpack what this means for them as new students at the school, but also, what it means for our school community.

While the transition into a new school is never easy for anyone, the Year 7 students showed great courage as they stepped out of their comfort zones to meet new people and participate in the various activities planned for the day.

On behalf of the Year 7 team, and the wider school community, we warmly welcome the Year 7 students and families  to Endeavour College.
