Firstly, I would like to thank all the students and staff for their understanding and cooperation during the first two weeks of term which were quite challenging with the number of staff absent for various reason which meant having to alter the Farm roster daily.

In the absence of Mr Millichamp and Mr Dunlop, and while we advertise these two positions, we have put strategies in place to maintain our educational and commercial programme on our Beef enterprise. Our aim is to have both Beef positions filled by Term 4.

Meantime, on Tuesdays Mr Falkingham will be taking the group of students who are rostered to Beef.  Ms Ferraro will once again be with us each Thursday and Friday, this will allow Mr Falkingham to be up at the Beef section.  Mr Rob Hodgson will be at the Dairy on Tuesdays to assist Ms Holmes.

Farm Activities

Mr Adams has commenced lamb marking the Merino flock, we are pregnancy testing the beef herd and will be commencing some fencing as well. Both the table and wine grapevines will be pruned and fertiliser applied to our hay and silage paddocks.

Excursions

We also have a number of excursions planned for this term:

  1. Three Ryan’s property at Manjimup with Ms Warden.
  2. Ag College Challenge at the Katanning Sheep Expo.
  3. Farm Skills Competition towards the end of term at the Claremont Showgrounds.
  4. Perth Royal show with Mr Adams and his prize ewes.

We have also entered a Year 11 team in the Ag College fencing competition at the Dowerin Field Day this month. Dowerin also provides opportunity for students to participate in various sheep judging events to qualify for the state championships.  More information can be found in HAC Chat.
