Think Tank Challenge

On Friday 5 August, a group of nine Year Ten students competed in the Water Corporation’s Think Tank Challenge, held in Bunbury. The challenge asked students from across the state to consider ways in which we can be more sustainable with our water usage. This year, the proposed ideas from each school needed to be around the statement: "We care about the environment in which we operate. How can we prepare for the future?"

The Great Southern Grammar team presented the idea of BluFood, an idea that aims to improve current water-using processes in the food service sector. As part of their program, grey water from restaurants/hospitality is reused on nearby community gardens and a money back scheme is offered to businesses that find ways to reduce their water use. Working collaboratively on the pitch, the team will now send a video summarising their idea to the finals on Friday 21 October.

GovHack 2022

GovHack, the annual open data hackathon, is on again this year! Great Southern Grammar has partnered with the City of Albany and Rio Tinto to present the 2022 Albany event. Hosted by the City of Albany, GovHack will run from 19 to 21 August at the Town Hall. Get your friends or colleagues together (about five to six people is ideal!) and register here: Events | Hackerspace (govhack.org)

Participants challenge themselves to use open data, creativity, problem-solving and critical thinking to design a project in what is the largest open data hackathon in the Southern Hemisphere, with no age limit on participation!

It’s a festival of ideas to help improve lives and communities and tackle some of the challenges we face in Australia and beyond by using openly available government data.
