Middle School Rugby

Under the direction of Mr Paul Osborne, a GSG Rugby team travelled to Cottesloe to play two Perth schools.  In both games they experienced success.  This was an indication of how regional teams can be on par with city counterparts.  I often hear the comment “you need to go the city to have sporting opportunities.” Having experience in both educational settings, I strongly believe that if you have good coaching and a strong desire to achieve, success is with the individual and the team.  This was never truer than last week for our Rugby team.

Music Solo Nights

This week music solo nights were held, and it was wonderful to have them return to the school calendar.  The nights were filled with a diverse range of top-quality performances highlighting the high standard of music education at our school.  For some, this night was the first opportunity to perform in front of a mature audience.  It takes a great amount of courage to perform in front of adults and we would like to commend our performers on their hard work leading up to their performance.  Special thanks goes to our music staff for making these nights possible and for preparing the students.  Music staff have dedicated many hours of their time and energy in providing this opportunity.

Federal Funding

At the recent Boarding Parents Forum and P&F meeting, I have spoken about the changes to Federal funding that GSG will experience over the coming years.  Federal funding has changed to a one measure, parents direct median income.  The median income of parents determines the amount of funding the School receives.  Due to this change, the School will receive less funding than we have experienced historically.  The School Council and the Executive are working towards efficiencies to enable the School to manage this change.

Vale Nicole Weeden

Nicole Weeden was an avid volunteer and was heavily involved in the Albany basketball, netball, football and pony club organisations.  Sadly, Nicole died Saturday 6 August in a car accident on Albany Highway.  Nicole worked as a primary school Education Assistant. Her enormous contribution supporting others will be sorely missed by the community and the School wishes to pass on our sincere condolences to Nicole’s family.
