Terrific Textiles!
Our inspiration for making art this term involves fibres and fabrics known as textiles.
We are interested to know:
- What fibres and fabrics did our Indigenous Australians use?
- How did they manipulate them?
- What did they create with them?
We will explore Indigenous communities where women artists today use fibres and fabrics to produce remarkable artworks.
Look at the fun we had exploring textiles.
We will create our artwork enlightened by our discoveries!
Foundation artists: Pulling threads, collaging, decorating fabrics, and weaving.
Year 1&2 artists: Finger knitting, weaving, and decorating dilly bags.
Pictured below are some artists practising finger knitting for a handle or belt, for their dilly bag.
Year 3&4 artists: Making a message stick adorned with plaiting, knotting, finger knitting – communicating a special thought.
Pictured below are some artists sanding their message sticks in preparation for decorations.
Year 5&6 artists: Designing and constructing a creature which embodies a natural spirit.
Can you donate?
As you can imagine we will be manipulating kilometres of WOOL and acres of FABRIC so if you have any spare you can donate, our textile artists would be very grateful.
Just drop them off at the Art Studio! Thank you for your support!
