BHCS HOUSE CROSS COUNTRY

By Allyssa Callow, Charlie Thorn & Caleb Lobbe (Sports Coordinators)

It was a gloriously cold and sunny day for the BHCS House Cross Country. The Junior students arrived first, with smiles and seemingly boundless energy. An absolute highlight was seeing so many of these smiles remaining as students crossed the finish line and celebrated their achievements. This culture of fun and hard work continued through the day with the Middle and Senior students alike. Some incredible race times were achieved, as well as so many students digging deep and giving their best regardless of finish time.

Back at school, the Junior students were treated to a session of ‘big group’ games and activities with Mrs. Callow and Mr. Lockrey. All students were rewarded with a delicious BBQ lunch after their events, with over 800 sausages/veggie patties being cooked up by a hard-working team led by Mr. Davidson.

The day was rounded out by a celebratory assembly. The Promotions Team amazingly managed to put together a beautiful series of photos and videos from the event for students to enjoy. The top 5 competitors from each age group were celebrated and we also recognised each student who completed their set distance with a certificate and a chance to win one of the 9 prizes from our ‘Rebel Sport Participation Prize Draw’.

It is the only sporting event in which the whole school competes on the same day. This brings with it an atmosphere of joy and excitement, as well as an enormous amount of logistics to work through. What an incredible team of staff we have here at BHCS. This was a whole team effort, from bus drivers and administration to teachers and learning assistants alike. Everyone joined in and rose to the challenge of fulfilling an array of different roles while maintaining student well-being and safety. We loved seeing so many excited and supportive parents spectating on the day, this created such a positive atmosphere for the students to participate in. Thank you, for being a part of the day.

KINDER VISIT: ROAD SAFETY INCURSION

By Kirsty Meese (Kinder Director)

On Friday there was a hum of excitement in the air, as we knew in Four-Year-Old-Kinder that we had a visitor coming to see us.

We were just in the middle of listening to a story when we noticed a visitor in Kinder who looked lost, it was Dr Eric Speriment and he was looking for a Teaching Team to teach Thingle Toodle about road safety. We thought that we might be able to help!

Dr Eric Speriment taught us that before crossing a road we must first hold an adult's hand, which he taught us through rap!!. Dr Eric Speriment told us a story about how he had to stop as he saw a chicken on a skateboard, showed us his looking glasses that he invented to help us remember to look, his listening thingamajig to remind us to listen and we played some games to help us think and now we know that before crossing a road we need to stop, look, listen and think!

Once we knew what to do, we could then teach Thingle Toodle how he could cross the road safely. If you ever need any help on knowing how to cross the road, make sure to ask a member of the Thingle Toodle Teaching Team and we'll be able to help you out.
