2-3 Learning

NAIDOC Day!

Hola everyone and welcome back. We hope everyone had a wonderful holiday. The 2-3 teachers are excited to be back in the classroom and ready to learn for another term. The term has commenced on a positive note as we participated in a NAIDOC Day celebration. Students showed care and curiosity as they engaged in a smoking ceremony followed by a cultural experience with Aboriginal teacher Uncle Trevor Gallagher.

Mathematics

Our Maths Builders program is up and running again with Spanish reinforcing the concepts of addition and subtraction and English focussing on multiplication and division. In The Collectives, students participate in "Number Talks" which give them an opportunity to think critically and solve problems in as many ways as possible. Students are able to share strategies and learn from each other to deepen their understanding. Teachers are using our online system Spiral to record students' goals and target learning to suit individual abilities during our workshops. Students are excited to share their problem-solving strategies during The Showtime at the end of each lesson. This also gives students an opportunity to consolidate learned concepts from Collectives and workshops.

Literacy

In writing, we have been exploring the structure of an information report and then we began writing our own. We first developed a writing seed with the ideas that we wanted to include in our text. After writing our text, we have used our school 'Writer's toolkit' to revise and edit our work.

This term we will be having a publishing week where we choose one of the information reports we have written to publish and share.

Parent Helpers

Thank you to all the parent helpers last term. The students really enjoyed having you in the classroom and appreciated your support. A new letter has been sent to parents to select their availability if you wish to be a parent helper in term 3.

Camp

We are fast approaching camp in just two weeks time!

This term, we have been discussing what to expect at camp, showing students photos from previous camps, identifying how we are all feeling anticipating our first camp and explaining the activities we can expect in our camp-readiness program leading up to the big day!

We have a number of families who still need to complete the student dietary requirements and medical information form. If you have not already done so, please click on the following link https://forms.office.com/r/DKZWCkybfT and complete the form by Monday 25th July.

We will be sending home a ‘What to Bring’ note to students next week which will also be sent as a sentral message. The camp staff are sending through our menu for the week and our activity program next week.

Exciting times ahead!

Home Learning

We will contiune to run weekly homework task via seesaw this term. Students can either complete this task on Seesaw or use paper/books at home and take a photo/video of their work to upload. The homework task will appear on Seesaw every Monday and as a class, we will explain the expectations of each task and answer student questions. Homework will still alternate between a Spanish and English task each week. We encourage students to continue using Raz Kids, Bug Club, take-home readers, heart words and high-frequency words spelling lists at home too.
