' Learning together to make a difference'
What a privilege it has been to join a school community like Karoo Primary School. In my first few weeks I have seen students excited, engaged and excelling in their learning, worked with caring & dedicated teachers and met a caring & welcoming community. Thank you to everyone for such a warm welcome.
There are many exciting initiatives taking place at Karoo PS and it gives me great pleasure to share them with you.
Karoo Primary School has partnered with REAL SCHOOLS to work together with our school community to embed restorative practices and support the development of positive relationships and culture across the school. On Friday 29th July the staff at Karoo met with our REAL SCHOOLs facilitator, Shelia Bollard, to engage in further learning around:
As part of the partnership our facilitator, Shelia, spent Thursday 11th August in classrooms, to model a range of effective teaching practices to support student engagement and learning. The teachers and students found the day very informative. Shelia also had very positive feedback about our school regarding how welcoming the students and teachers were, how ready to learn the students were and how calm, organised and productive the classrooms were.
Real School Parent Information Session – Thursday 11th August
Thank you to all those parents that were able to attend the parent information session last Thursday. It was an opportunity for our whole community to work together to continue to improve teaching and learning opportunities at Karoo PS. At the information session, Shelia shared research about human behaviour and how the different parts of the brain impact our actions. She discussed the benefits of restorative practices and how shifts in language can positively impact culture. It was a very informative evening!
We were able to record the session ,please find the link here to watch https://vimeo.com/738848188/421d5fed7d
To further support the wellbeing of our students, members of our staff have been trained in implementing specific wellbeing group workshops. Currently, there are two workshops available to students. The workshops are ‘Let’s Talk about Worry and Anxiety’ and ‘Let’s Talk about Social Skills.’ If you would like to find out further information about these programs, please speak to your child’s classroom teacher.
Have a wonderful week,
Mrs Hoffmann
