Teaching and Learning

Science Week
Last week was National Science Week. We were very fortunate to have an incursion whereby Alice from Coliban Water came along to school and took each grade for a session. Each session was full of information about the water cycle, how water gets to Bendigo and Raywood from its' source - the Coliban River near Kyneton, what happens to waste water and how to save water.
Year 4-6 News from Mr Collins
In Mr Collins' room this week Mr Jackson has taken full control of the teaching duties with Mr Collins mentoring him through the process. Mr Jackson's main areas of planning and teaching include measurement, poetry, guided reading and reading conferences along with all of the other day to day teacher duties. For Integrated Studies the students continued to build on our enormous world map by studying the various currencies of major countries in the world and looking at converting the Australian $ to theirs. We have also learnt about the oceans and designed labels for them. Congratulations to Link for being selected as having the most original label.

Drama
During week 7’s afternoon Drama session, students have enjoyed acting out The Gingerbread Man. We’ve been focussing upon body language and body movements, along with facial expressions and our use of character specific voices, to really embrace each of the characters & transform ourselves into the role. We’ve also been enjoying a number of quick warm up activities like “name 5 things” to help us think on our feet & anticipate others’ possible answers. This is a great game to try at home with the family on a wet & rainy winter’s afternoon!
