Now you are  the body of  Christ

and individually members of it.

1 Corinthians 12:27

10th August

Dear Parents/Carers,

The Year 3 /4 students have been exploring different perspectives of God. They asked their parents if their perspective of God had changed over time. These are some of their responses.

What did you think God was like when you were young?

I thought God was a really old man with a long white beard.

I thought God was a protector.

I thought God was someone that lived in the sky and looked over us all the time to see if I was naughty or good.

I thought God was someone special who lived in heaven and made the world.

I thought God was powerful and scary.

God was a big part of my life as he was someone I could turn to when I needed support. I felt God was always there to love and guide us in the right direction.

What do you think God is now?

Now I don't think of God as having a human face. Rather I believe him/her to be a life force moving through living things.

Now I think that God is all around me and my family. I am thankful to God for all of the great things in my life.

I think God is everywhere. He is always around us which we can see through the love and care that people have for each other

I think God is everywhere, all around us and we can talk to God anytime. I think God is very understanding and is always there to guide us in our lives.

Now I don’t think of God in the sky, but someone all around me. I can feel him with me when I’m at work or when I’m at home.  God is all around us helping us to live our lives as better people.

Now I think God is someone who teaches us love and compassion. Through the stories in the bible God teaches us values on how to be a good person.

Now I think that God loves us no matter what and will always show forgiveness. Like St Ignatius said ‘God freely created us so that we might know love, and serve him in this life and be happy with him forever.’

Our life experiences can often change our perspective.  Taking the time to share our  experiences with our children is so enriching and helps them to see something  differently.

Take care and have a lovely week
