Sub School Principal Message
Dear Parents, Families and Community Members,
It has been a great start to 2020. PCC has amazing staff who are dedicated to making a difference to the students. The students have been so welcoming and really made an effort to get to know me. I feel extremely lucky to be working with you all to make a difference to your children's education.
The students in Years 7-9 have has a smooth start to the year. Students are well in to the swing of developing their routines for organising themselves each morning and after each break. The lockers have proven to be a challenge, but we have seen our students persist through these challenges and build their resilience. We have had some issues with the locks provided and have communicated with families via COMPASS to purchase their own personal locks. We have encouraged students to purchase the lock that best works for them. This could be a key or combination lock. If purchasing a key lock, we are encouraging students to keep the spare key with their home room teacher.
This year we have implemented a strong secondary school program with new curriculum areas such as Design Technology. All curriculum areas are developing a strong homework policy and teachers will communicate with parents via COMPASS when these expectations have not been met. Families will receive Interim Reports this term. These reports will be a brief guide for families outlining their progress in each of the curriculum areas as well as how they are meeting our college expectations and homework tasks. Families will then have an opportunity to discuss any of their concerns with the relevant teachers.
Last week we held two information sessions for parents. Our first session was to inform families about the High Achievers Program (HAP) we will be implementing in 2021. This program will allow students to access advanced curriculum to extend and motivate students to achieve excellence. This presentation was sent to all families in years 5-8. All students interested in participating in this program must apply to the program. Application forms can be collected from the office. All applications must be submitted by Friday 15th May.
Our second information session was to inform families about our Japanese Study Tour planned for later in the year. We are currently investigating the insurance aspect due to the recent travel advice to Japan. Once this has been confirmed we can proceed with the organisation of the tour. This presentation was sent to all families in Years 7-9 via COMPASS.
We held our first Sub School assembly last week. It was great to recognise our students achievements and award 5 of our students the very first Principal Awards. We will have another assembly scheduled for the last week of the term. I look forward to awarding more students with these awards.
We are currently investigating other camping programs for our students in Years 7-9. The programs we are investigating are a Year 9 city experience and a Year 7/8 Snow camp. Stay tuned for further information in the coming weeks.
Our Careers programs is in full swing. Mrs Leach is working hard to develop a comprehensive program for our students. Families in Year 9 were sent a COMPASS post asking for permission to complete a Career's Survey. Please ensure you check COMPASS and provide consent to this program. Its a great opportunity for our students to guide them with their future career choices. Further information about our Careers Program can be found within this newsletter.
In Senior School we have now implemented Year Level Leaders. If you have any concerns and are unable to get in touch with your child's homeroom teacher, please contact the relevant year level leader.
Alex Phillips- Year 7
Lauren Roman - Yr 8

I look forward to an amazing year ahead.
