Year 1 & 2

Inquiry Unit
During the last week of Term 1, the students participated in an inquiry-based unit about our local area. Students explored topics such as how the environment in our area has changed over time, how humans can affect the environment and what animals and plants live in the City of Casey. This was an enriching experience as students could use their prior knowledge about where they lived and what they have seen in the area to drive whole class discussions
Harmony Day
On Friday the 20th of March, the students celebrated Harmony Day. They dressed in cultural dress or the colour orange which is the national colour for Harmony day. Students discussed their cultures with the class and we learnt that we had 11 countries represented just within our cohort. It was fantastic to share the different cultural traditions and languages.
Our New Learning Community
The grade 1/2 cohort is bursting at the seams with our enrolments going through the roof. The space we were currently in cannot hold anymore more students. As a result, we have now moved to Learning Community 2 which is located in the same building but down the other end, where the grade 3-6s were originally. The students were very excited when moving their belongings to the new space. They couldn’t believe that the whole building was just for them.
Remote Learning
In the past week we have seen our students start their remote learning program at home . Our start was a little rocky with programs crashing but everyone remained patient and calm until the problems were resolved. It has been amazing to see the students embracing this change and working from home to achieve their learning tasks. This has been a new experience for all of us and we are very excited to see how it evolves over the term.
