PREP

Inquiry Unit

The end of Term 1 saw both the Prep classes participate in an inquiry unit. The final six days of the term allowed for the students to learn and inquire about what animals live near our school. The students started the unit with a nature discovery walk around the school grounds. The classes went separately and were both extremely lucky to explore and discover many different animals within the school grounds.

The students found spiders, crows, beetles, ants, grasshoppers, butterflies, dragonflies and many more animals. The students then recorded their finds and from there choose their favourite animal to research.

With the help of the senior school students they investigated their animals and wrote little stories about them. Throughout the inquiry unit all students were exposed to many different ways in which you can research a topic. They used their social skills through talking with each other, during the discussions they discovered many new facts about animals.

On the final day of the inquiry unit the students were given the opportunity to make their favourite animals, this activity saw butterflies, dragonflies, giraffes, dogs, whales and too many more to mention. Their imaginations and creativity were allowed to flow freely and the results were amazing.

On Friday 20th March we celebrated Harmony Day, the students could wear their cultural dress to school. It was lovely to see so many students dressing up and sharing the stories about where their families originated from.
