What a learning curve our first week has been! We've been Zooming, linking, filming, uploading, downloading, troubleshooting IT issues and wondering how much longer we can spend on our screens before our eyes fall out! But thanks to the support and guidance of their families, the Preps have enjoyed their favourite school routines at home: learning about the "letter of the week", practising handwriting and spelling 3 letter words. Every book in the house has probably been read by now, so families are looking to online resources for early readers: more resources are coming soon. The tricky part has been introducing Maths concepts. We love the way out Prep families have innovated on our 'Ten Frames' activities this week using materials from around the house: 'stickies,' 'Coles minis', 'Ooshies' and other toys have all featured in work samples received this week. We're loving the way hands-on learning is happening in your homes! Check out some of the great work going on in lounge rooms and kitchen benches below!
Thank you families for all your hard work! Keep checking in on our Parent Chat channel to see our weekly Zoom timetable and for support.
Stay active and well everyone!

1/2 News
Welcome back to a very strange Term 2. It’s certainly new for everybody! This Home Learning Adventure has begun with lots of new skills and learning for all; students, parents and teachers. Well done to the kids on making a positive start to the term. We have been impressed with the resilience and patience as we all adjust to learning in a whole new way.
Level 1/2 looks forward to continuing to use Compass and introducing SeeSaw to share work, connect with our students and provide feedback. Thank you to the many students who have submitted work. We have particularly loved reading your acrostic poems!
3/4 News
Hi everyone,
We hope that you had a fantastic Easter break (although it was not quite the holiday we were all expecting!) and that you found time to relax, connect and enjoy some quality family time.
It has been a unique and unprecedented beginning to term two. We are all experiencing something new, learning together and achieving amazing goals in terms of ‘Learning from Home.’ Naturally there have been some teething problems, but the Level 3/4 team have been so impressed with the way the students and parents have approached all learning with flexibility, positivity and perseverance. We cannot thank you enough for your support.
It has been wonderful to keep in touch with the students using ‘Zoom’ and it is a joy to see their enthusiastic and excited faces. We enjoy talking to them using this media and it is a great opportunity to communicate with them in a meaningful way.
In reading, we have been focussing on summarising and sequencing skills, in order to help us understand a variety of texts and make deeper connections with them. Please encourage your child to complete and upload the Reading task for specific feedback each Monday, we have had a great response so far.
In writing, we have been focusing on contractions and characterisation, as well as forming opinions and persuading people to agree with our point of view. We have read some highly creative and imaginative pieces. Please remember to upload the Writing learning task for specific feedback on Wednesday each week.
In Maths, we have been increasing our understanding of addition and subtraction strategies, money and data and statistics. The learning task for specific feedback for Maths needs to be uploaded on Compass each Friday.
Please be assured you are all doing a fantastic job and continue to assist and support your children with their learning. If we can assist you in any other way please do not hesitate to contact us. We will get through this together…
Kind regards
The Level 3/4 Learning Team

5/6 News:
Welcome back to a very exciting Term 2! What a different, yet wonderful journey it has been so far... Zoom meetings, online chat forums, capturing our Reading, Writing, Maths, Inquiry, Wellbeing and Tribes learning, and keeping connected in all the ways that we can digitally.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the Grade 5/6 families for showing impeccable resilience, patience and kindness. All of the work that has been submitted is of a Personal Best standard and is a great display of the amazing community that we are. We are adapting to change and doing the best that we can and we are so proud of the 5/6 students as an entire cohort.
If there are any difficulties that you are facing, questions that you may have or you would just like to get connected via a Zoom call with your child and their teacher, please don't hesitate to send through an email or Zoom chat message to get connected.
Reminders:
The 'Specific Feedback Tasks' to be submitted to Compass under the 'Learning From Home: Reading/Writing/Maths - Specific Feedback Task' are as follows:
Monday: Reading
Wednesday: Writing
Friday: Maths
Details for what needs to be submitted for 'Specific Feedback Tasks' will always be found in the 'Assessment' component of the daily lesson plan for each subject.
The 'Learning From Home - Upload General Tasks' is a place for all other completed work throughout the week if your child would like to submit these, for each subject area.
If you are having difficulties uploading any files to Compass, please email these files through to your child's classroom teacher, or any other way that has been organised for you to contact your child's classroom teacher. There are many people on Compass all at once and our wonderful patience will allow this to continue to run smoothly. All feedback for any completed learning tasks will be communicated via Compass in the learning task submission folders so that learning feedback is all in one place.
Thank you for a smooth transition to online learning. We look forward to continuing to connect, being innovative and having fun on this journey together.
All the best,
The 5/6 Team:
Brendan Van Haaster, Damien Smith, Mel Layton, Mykaela Hodgett and Rachel Boyle.
From the Library
Keep up the awesome reading everybody! So many students have made a great start to the Premiers' Reading Challenge for 2020 and it is amazing. Every week I will be tallying the total books read for each class. The winning class will win a special prize at the end.
The current winning class is 1AC!
I am always happy to help if you need support. If you need your child's PRC login details, please contact your class teacher first.
Happy reading!
