Dante Alighieri Poetry Competition
On Wednesday 26 June, the Year 9 and 10 Italian classes took part in the Dante Alighieri Poetry Competition. It was a state-wide competition with around 30 other schools in Victoria participating and was held at Melbourne University in the Old Arts Lecture Theatre.
Each of us recited one of the four poems to pick from for this year and afterwards we walked to Crinitis for a delicious pizza lunch. Following our lunch in Faraday Street, we then had the opportunity to visit Brunetti to indulge in gelato and sweets. Overall it was an enjoyable experience and thank you to Prof. Finamore for organising the fun day!

Book In a Day Competition
On Thursday 26 July, a group of students from Years 7-10 went to St Peter’s College, Cranbourne, to prepare for the Book in a Day competition which will be held in August.
There, we attended a variety of workshops that talked about techniques to improve both our writing and illustrative skills as well as how to get published. It was an incredibly eye-opening experience. Some attended the Short Stories workshop, where they tested their imaginations to create interesting storylines, learned how to fit a character into a given plot and discussed different approaches to starting off a story.
In the Building Worlds workshop, the students talked with an accomplished author about creating believable worlds and learned how to insert characters into them. The Illustration workshop taught students how to reveal a character’s personality through their design, and the Graphic Novel workshop talked about the different elements and techniques of creating graphic novels.
Overall, we were taught many tips and tricks that will be of great use to us in the SIS Book in a Day competition.
