Melbourne's New Archbishop

By now you would be aware that Archbishop Denis Hart’s resignation was accepted by Pope Francis and that Archbishop Peter Comensoli has been appointed the next Archbishop for Melbourne.  This is an exciting time for the Archdiocese of Melbourne.  We place our old and new Archbishops before our God and ask blessings on both of them as they begin their respective phases in life.

Archbishop Comensoli will be celebrating Mass at St John’s Regional College on Wednesday 15 August at 11.30 am in the College Stadium for the Feast of the Assumption.  Parents are welcome to join us on this historic day.  Please email me:  jrhynehart@sjrc.vic.edu.au with your RSVP.

As a college community we pray our prayer for our new Archbishop:

Heavenly Father,

From age to age you call forth and anoint shepherds to tend your flock.

We thank you for the pastoral leadership of Archbishop Denis Hart these past seventeen years and ask you to bless him as he soon completes his ministry as our bishop.

We celebrate your calling forth our new bishop, Peter Comensoli, to lead us forward in faith.

As we joyfully welcome him into our midst, pour forth the gifts from your Holy Spirit to strengthen him for his ministry in our church...

Through his faithful response to your call, may he come to know the vibrant faith of, as well as the love and support of the clergy, religious and lay people of the Archdiocese of Melbourne.

United with our bishop in the mission of the Eternal Good Shepherd, we make this prayer through your son, Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God forever and ever.

Amen.
