CURRICULUM DAY – STUDENT FREE DAY

Monday 15th July is a student free day and the last of our curriculum days for this year. We are working with consultant Pam Burton on the school’s instructional model. The staff are keen to learn more about the GRR - Gradual Release of Responsibility model by Nancy Frey and Douglas Fisher

Scaffolded instruction, or the gradual release model, is broadly recognised as a successful approach for moving classroom instruction from teacher-centred, whole group delivery to student-centred collaboration and independent practice. Sometimes referred to as “I do it, we do it, you do it,” this model proposes a plan of instruction that includes demonstration, prompt, and practice.

Camp Australia will be available for bookings on this day, please contact Elly Patterson (Coordinator) on 0404 458 298 to make all arrangements.

GOODBYE & BEST WISHES SIGNORA KELLY

One year and six months have floated by so quickly and we are now saddened by the pending departure of our wonderful LOTE- Italian teacher Mrs Patrizia Kelly. Today marks the last day of work for Trish at Ripponlea Primary School, as she officially returns to her base school of Malvern Primary School.

As a staff we are very happy for Signora Kelly, because we know she plans to do something very special in the next couple of months (tour of Italy) and has set time aside to make herself a priority in life, before considering other options. Signora Kelly has taught both in the classroom and in a specialist program for over 45 years. She has had a wealth of experience in teaching EAL students and adults at a language centre.

Over her time at Ripponlea, she has built wonderful relationships with our students and staff and has brought her passion for the Italian language and culture into every classroom and every child. Trish is not saying good bye to Ripponlea forever, as she still plans to support us as a casual replacement teacher for our Italian Program.

CHALLENGE – SUPPORTING KIDS WITH CANCER FUNDRAISER

This Friday our student council have organised a special pyjama day, so please send your child in their warm PJ’s straight to school, but please remember the special gold coin donation towards this initiative.

Last year our community was touched by the passing of a "special angel" - Summer Hall, daughter of Tania Watts- Hall, one of our staff members. In loving memory, we kindly request that you support Challenge. Challenge is a not-for-profit organisation that provides daily support for children and families living with cancer, or life threatening illnesses.

THREE WAY CONFERENCE BOOKINGS

In the second week of Term 3, we will be conducting Three-Way Conferences which supports our aim to give our students greater responsibility for their learning. It allows for students to share their learning, reflect on their successes and define areas for future focus. In turn, it positions parents to actively encourage their children’s progress and understand how they, in partnership with teachers, can provide help and advice.

Three-Way Conferences demonstrate how we value their views and opinions and reinforce the learning partnership formed between, children, parents and the school.

Prior to the conference, students and teachers prepare together. They discuss learning goals and reflect on how they have proceeded towards achieving these. Together with the teacher, they also consider the next important steps in their learning and how to prepare for these. Students are encouraged to find examples of their learning which illustrate their strengths, areas for improvement and other samples of which they are proud.

To book a conference, please go to www.schoolinterviews.com.au and enter the code p2zht.

If you wish the opportunity to speak with the teacher without your child being present, you are welcome to spend the first 10 minutes dedicated to the three-way conference and the remaining 5 minutes with the teacher only.

“Without continual growth and progress, such words as improvement, achievement, and success have no meaning.” Benjamin Franklin

STAFF VS STUDENTS NETBALL MATCH

All smiles and victory to the staff who defeated the 5/6 students in a stellar netball match today.

The music was pumping and the crowds of students were cheering. Next term more friendly competition to come.

REPORTS ARE NOW AVAILABLE ON COMPASS

This afternoon all families will receive their child’s personal report. Please share this report with your child and celebrate their many achievements over this current semester. We would like to congratulate all the students on their individual progress, it was so pleasing reading all of their reports, identifying what they have been learning, their strengths and future goals.

We also thank our teachers, who spent many hours going through assessment data, tracking the learning of each student and effectively reporting their progress. Each family will have the opportunity to discuss any elements of their child’s report at the Three-Way Conference/Parent Teacher interview.

HOLIDAY WISHES

On behalf of the staff and whole school community we would like to wish all families a very safe and relaxing holiday break. It’s a perfect time to enjoy the cosy comfort of PJ’s, a fireplace or heater and home with great friends and family. Snuggle up, stay warm and see you all next term ready for our production extravaganza!

Happy Holidays!
