P.A.L.S Afternoon

Yesterday, our Junior School students participated in our third P.A.L.S afternoon for the year. The acronym stands for Physical Education, Art, Language and Science. Together with Miss Stephen and Mr Griffin, our Year 6 students planned an AFL themed afternoon of active fun for Prep - Year 5 students. Students were able to come to school dressed in their favourite footy team colours which added to the excitement of the afternoon.  Activities included designing football jerseys, playing markers up, around the world, a handball competition and more! As always, it is a time for our older Junior School students to help, mentor and come alongside our younger students, and this occasion was no exception. Thank you to staff and students who were involved in making this instalment of our P.A.L.S afternoon such a success!

Queen Elizabeth II

Over the past week we have reflected on the life of Queen Elizabeth as a school. Mr Tucker spoke at Assembly about the life of great service and sacrifice Queen Elizabeth lived out faithfully for over seventy years. He encouraged all staff and students to think of her example, and challenged us all to dedicate our lives to the service of God and others, just as the Queen did. Our Australian Flag has been flying half mast in the courtyard as a reminder for those that walk past. In addition, Mrs Snook’s Year 1 class have also taken the time to make some striking artwork to remember the Queen. For staff and students it has been a time of reflection and inspiration as we listen, read about and discuss the life of Queen Elizabeth II.

Prep

In the Prep classroom we have been learning about 3D objects. We've searched around our classroom for 3D objects and learned their different names and how they're different to 2D shapes. This week, we got to discuss the 3D shapes that can be used to make sandcastles!

Year 1

This term, the Year 1 class have been studying Fractured Fairy Tales. A Fractured Fairy Tale is a retelling of a traditional Fairy Tale where some of the story elements are changed. Here are some thoughts from a few of our Year 1 students:

"My favourite Fractured Fairy Tale is 'After the Fall'. It is very interesting for me and a bit of a mystery to find out why Humpty Dumpty changed into a bird at the end. I finally figured out why because mother birds lay eggs so he could be the egg of a bird".
Joey
"'The Mermaid' was my favourite Fractured Fairy Tale. It was the same as Goldilocks. I loved The Mermaid because it has so much detail in the pictures. I wish I could draw the pictures. I loved The Mermaid".
Alina
"'The Three Little Wolves and the Big Bad Pig” is my favourite Fairy Tale. It is so funny because at the end the big bad Pig joins the Pigs in the house. The Pig isn’t bad any more. He is a good Pig now. He was so happy because he was trying to be friends".
Peter
"My favourite part is when baby Octopus said “Going, going gone!” It is a Fractured Fairy Tale from Goldilocks and the Three Bears. The home looks beautiful and pretty and delicate. It is fun learning about the books. The pictures are beautiful and the author and illustrator was Jan Brett".

Year 2

The Year 2 students (and their teachers) are very excited for a new season and the hint of warmer weather and sunny days ahead. This week in Art, they created a watercolour painting with wild daisies, representing what they can see appearing in nature in our schoolyard at the moment. Mrs Ballinger and Mrs Burgess wish the Year 2 children and families a very happy and safe Spring holiday!

Year 3

Two spontaneous events have enriched our learning in Year 3 this week. Students were intrigued by the content of two presentations given on Christian missionary work in the country of Niger. These were provided by two of our class aides Miss Carter and Mrs Short. The students have also been highly motivated in their research and documentation of flags from 40 countries. They have worked as a team to display their efforts in groups of four for ease of counting. As their teacher I am delighted with the holistic progress being made by each student, and praise God for His guiding care of each one.
