CORE: English

Year 9

What is the subject about

A highlight of our Year 9 English program is our unit on Dystopia, which captures our students’ imagination as they critically analyse our world through the lens of future universes, engaging in a variety of texts with enjoyment. Throughout the year they experience film, short stories, graphic novels, blogs, podcasts and other mediums of learning to assist them in interpreting, creating, evaluating, discussing and performing a wide range of literary texts. As well, they are exposed to texts designed to inform and persuade like newspapers, film and digital texts, fiction, non-fiction, poetry and multimodal texts. Through their involvement in our English program, students develop a critical understanding of the world they live in and the different perspectives that a single issue can raise. They will inevitably find their voice and develop ways to express themselves and their views clearly and logically.
