Music

Year 7

Year 7 Music students have come to the end of their first term of Music in Semester 2. Students have diligently applied their performance skills on keyboard and have performed repertoire including Lean On me, The Never-ending Story and See You Again with a focus on note values, hand position and technical skills. Students completed their first keyboard performance for an assessment this term and will learn to perform repertoire from the Film Music Unit during Term 4.

Year 8

Year 8 students have been developing individual and ensemble performance skills on keyboard, guitar and bass guitar based on The Blues and Rock Music genres. Students have been exposed to the musical characteristics of The Blues through performance, listening and composition activities. This led to learning many Rock/Big Band riffs, which are based on the Blues scale including Smoke on the Water, Peter Gunn and Sunshine of Your Love. Students are currently involved in arranging the riffs into a performance for their end of term assessment.

Year 9

Year 9 Music students have been learning about the concepts of music and their treatment in Irish Music, including traditional Jigs and Pop/Rock genres. Students performed and composed Irish Jigs and notated these using Sibelius demonstrating an understanding of melodic and rhythmic features of the music.

Year 10

Year 10 have been busy preparing listening presentations. Working in pairs, students compared a song as well as a cover version of that song. Students looked at what was similar and contrasting analysing the concepts of Music. Some interesting songs were compared including Sweet Child O’ Mine, Master Of Puppets and the Game Of Thrones theme.

Year 11

Year 11 Music students have been working towards their Practical Music Exam as they conclude the final term of the Preliminary Music 1 Course. Students have been working on individual performance pieces representing a variety of genres and have analysed the functions of music in films as a topic in Term 3.
