Japanese
Both Year 8 and Year 9 students have undertaken study around Japanese cuisine this term. Both groups have been in the food tech rooms cooking up some delicious meals, beginning with simple rice balls and fried rice balls and moving onto more complex dishes.
Year 9 have made Japanese style omelettes along with “nabe” or hotpot, while Year 8 demonstrated their skills at curry rice, which proved to be a hit among the students. Students have learnt how to order meals, to ask what things are and discuss prices in Japanese Yen while making comparisons with the Aussie Dollar. We hope that some of them make it to Japan to try out their skills for real in the future.
Senior Japanese students have been filling the classroom wall in all the Kanji that they have learnt so far in Japanese. It is a very impressive display of close to 150 characters! They are now able to converse confidently in Japanese around a variety of topics including school life, hobbies, travel and family.
